December 31, 2005 - Sabbath
End of the month and end of the year. Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year!

Happy New Year !!!!

December 30, 2005 - Friday
Jimmy worked today and I did a little grocery shopping. Laundry and routine housework and it's a full day!

Having trouble with my webpages....seems like the satellite is cache'ing them and won't refresh. Changed my internet options to always look for updates, also changed a couple other things, but these pages just won't refresh. (Other websites refresh just fine). Probably cause I have them piggy-backed on our n4st website. So I have to use a different way of accessing them to make sure they have updated correctly. I view them in Homesite, but sometimes things are different when they are posted online. So....just an extra step on my part but basically invisible to anyone else that might visit my pages.

I am working on the Christmas photos and Christmas tree photos through the years to add to my Christmas Holidays pages. Hopefully in the next week I'll have them resized, thumbnailed and uploaded to the pages.

I was going to take photos of my cookies this year for the Cookie page, but they disappeared too quickly. Well, maybe later in the year I'll do another batch. It's just so impressive when I do several large batches of all the different ones and have them all over my kitchen before Christmas.

Will probably do more work on the family pages next month. That's it for tonight, tired.

December 29, 2005 - Thursday
Talked with Seth this morning, all is well. Otherwise just trying to catch up laundry and ironing. Watched some Kung Fu this evening. Extremely routine! Jimmy is off work today, but will work on Friday. He saw the new "King Kong" movie last night with some friends, said it was very good.

Tired again tonight, but accomplished some stuff today. Kinda got ahead of me over the holidays as it usually does. I'd rather play than work! So just working on catching up.

Warmer than normal temps the last couple weeks. In the mid to upper 50's today. The seven day forecast shows a continuation of this same pattern. Jet stream is coming in almost straight across the US instead of having a bump in it, so this is why the air is warmer. Probably will change the second week of January or so....

December 28, 2005 - Wednesday
More and more routine, back to doing laundry and routine type housework. Tired tonight...

December 27, 2005 - Tuesday
Almost a routine day. Did some housework and we took garbage to the dump. Ran into town for a prescription. We did watch a movie in the evening. "50 First Dates" Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Really a cute movie. Of course I always cry.

Working on my Resolutions a little more. I pulled out the one for last year and had to laugh. I number the items as I go down the list and this years almost matched last years, number for number. Hm-m-m-m, guess I didn't succeed last year.....

Oh, now you will laugh. Resolutions for 2 years ago almost match number for number also. I think I sense a pattern here.......

December 26, 2005 - Monday
We were all a little blue today, since Seth had to fly back to New Mexico. It was such a short visit, but we're glad he was able to come even if it was only for a few days. We'll see him again this spring when he comes back East for Storm Chase 2006.

We really had a nice Christmas. Jimmy was at work this evening so Jim & I watched a couple movies, "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" and "Mr. and Mrs. Smith". Clint Eastwood's Good, Bad and Ugly is one of our favorite classic westerns. Mr and Mrs Smith was surprisingly entertaining. Lots of action, with humor intertwined. Very entertaining! It was a nice quiet evening at home!

Well, every year, after seeing my sister-in-law's beautifully decorated home, I always get inspired to make a resolution to do a better job decorating my own home next year. Penny just decorates her entire home so beautifully, it's hard to describe. Every room in her house gets a makeover for the holidays. Even things like the curtains in her kitchen, dish towels, all her knic-knacs, everything converted to Christmas! It is absolutely stunning!! I know it's alot of work, too. And not only that, but then she and her daughters go over to her mother's home and do the same thing there! It's so beautiful. Even if you weren't in the mood for the holidays, just walking into Penny's house will just give you Christmas Carols in your heart! Anyway, I always get inspired when I visit them at Christmas time. (I'll post some photos later.) I swear each year that I'll do better at decorating next year at my house. So it's in my New Year's Resolutions for 2006! And yes, I still write New Year's Resolutions each year. It's one of those "obsessive-compulsive" list things that I must do.

December 25, 2005 - Sunday

Merry Christmas !!!!

Seth was off to visit some of his high school (and college) friends this afternoon, and Jimmy was working the evening shift, so Jim & I enjoyed just kicking back and playing with our Christmas presents. We also watched a movie that I got for Christmas from Jim, "Darling Lili". I saw that movie in the theater when I was a teenager and have always loved it! Julie Andrews and Rock Hudson in a World War I setting. Adorable!

December 24, 2005 - Sabbath
Spent today with both families and had a really good time. We started the day at the Price home, visiting with all Jim's family. We numbered 13 this year. We need to do this more often than once a year! Then we went to my brother's home and visited briefly with them. Then my brother's family and all of us went over to my parents home and we had a real nice visit there.

We left Dad's around 7:30 pm and arrived home around 10:15 pm. Then we opened presents! Jim gave a box to Jimmy to open, and when he opened it, there was another box inside of it. We started laughing because Jim had been complaining that he was missing one of the boxes he set aside to wrap a present in. The present for some reason had never been wrapped, but he had wrapped the box with the empty boxes inside of it instead!

I guess we were both a little tired when we wrapped presents! Anyway, we sure had a good time and the holiday was wonderful. It's always so good to go visit family or have family here! I love this time of year!

I went to bed around 2:30 am and didn't hear when the "boys" all came upstairs! That's unusual since I'm usually the last person to go to bed!

December 23, 2005 - Friday
Had our big turkey dinner today. I'm tired, but unlike Thanksgiving, this time it went like clockwork!! I had everything ready, when I said it would be ready, no extra stress or anything! Turned out good too!

I've posted some of my favorite cookie recipes on the cookie page finally!

Sure is nice having the whole family together again! Well, I am tired, like I said earlier, so will not write a book tonight!

December 22, 2005 - Thursday
Seth got home at 4 am this morning. Jim picked him up at the airport at 1:30 am and it's so nice to have him home for a few days!!

Well, we have satellite internet back, but our websites are down. So haven't been able to upload to my webpages, since last Friday. Hopefully, Jim will figure out what has happened. Said the place we had our domains resting at, has been bought out, so there may be some configuration that has been compromised. He will check on it over the holidays.

Baked 10 dozen molasses crinkles this morning. I normally would do several dozen of the cookie press types, in different colors etc. Would also do sugar cookies, the kind that you cut out with cookie cutters, then decorate with all the cool little sprinkles. Used to do that one for the kids when they were smaller, just out of school for the holidays, for entertainment, in anticipation of Christmas Day, of opening presents and all that. But that was then and this is now. Boys are grown up, though they still enjoy eating them! But I've found that the chocolate chip, butterscotch chip and molasses crinkles are the favorites and that's more than enough for all of us over the holidays! So that's it, no more for this year!!! Well, I'll think about it. It's a lot of fun! And I have a ton of sprinkles. Well, maybe just one small batch would be ok. I'll think about it. Really have enough to do already. We'll see.

I sound very decisive, don't I.

All else is going well, we're just enjoying having all the family together here at home for the holidays! Merry Christmas to all!

December 21, 2005 - Wednesday
Wow!!! The nice men came and replaced the thingy on our dish that was defective, and now we are back online!!! I had 2349 emails waiting and more coming in beyond that number! Seth is at the airport right now checking in for the flight home!!! He just called!!

Well, I did 5 dozen chocolate chip cookies and 5 dozen of the butterscotch cookies on Monday. I'll do the molasses crinkles tonight while Jim is going to the airport to pick up Seth.

Tuesday, we decorated the tree and hung the outside lights. Also wrapped packages. So we're getting there.

Today I've been just doing routine housework. Jimmy & Jim have helped me some today with heavier stuff, so the house is slowly getting there. Still have alot of my "fall" cleaning that didn't get done, but at this point it will be "spring" cleaning! As usual, as I do every fall, I got a bad cold just before Thanksgiving and on top of it this year was diagnosed with diabetes, so didn't get done all that I planned. No good excuse, just didn't feel up to par. So now, I'm on new medications, cold is gone and beginning to feel alot better, so now I'm trying to catch up!

The temperatures are warming up for the holiday, supposed to go up into the 40's and 50's for Christmas day! I normally like a cold, crisp, snowy holiday, but that was when we all lived at home and noone had to travel. Now that part of the family has to work everyday, or go to school everyday or travel from New Mexico to get home, I prefer the warmer temps, so there are no delays or travel worries!!! Come on home, Seth!!!!

Looking forward to Christmas!

December 18, 2005 - Sunday
No internet since Thursday night. Everytime it rains or snows, after it stops, no internet. They are coming on Monday to replace some parts on the dish, so hopefully we will be back online soon.

Wrapped some presents today, got the tree in the house, not yet decorated however. Guess I will work on it tomorrow. I also want to bake some cookies in the next couple of days, so will be working on that. Seth will be home on Thursday!!! We're all looking forward to seeing him.

December 17, 2005 - Sabbath

Happy Birthday Kevin!!!!

December 16, 2005 - Friday
Most schools were delayed or closed. The college didn't announce, so Jimmy left around 6:30 am for an 8 am exam (takes about an hour to drive there). He called me on the cell, said to not go out for a couple hours because the roads were like a skating rink. Temperature had dropped to 31° right at dawn and things glazed over. The TV news shows were saying literally hundreds of fender benders and some serious accidents from the ice.

In a couple hours the sun was out and the temps rose above freezing. It turned out to be a beautiful day and I did some grocery shopping. Had several Rx's pick up, so did that also. Because of my meds, I've ordered a medical alert ID to wear. Don't want to be given something IV that would conflict with what I take, in case of an accident or something. Jim should wear one too, but haven't convinced him to do so yet.

Looking forward to Christmas, Seth will be home! My mother-in-law came home from the hospital today. She's still quite weak so please keep her in your prayers.

Still haven't decorated or put the tree up. It is frozen in the bucket. And it rained so hard yesterday, didn't want all that "wet" in the house. So-o-o, hopefully, she says, over the weekend. I think this is the latest we have ever waited to decorate for Christmas. Well, maybe not, but close 2nd.

Well, I decorated this page a little. Added the flashing or animated Santa and lights. Also added holly lines. Well, it's something!

December 15, 2005 - Thursday
A little sleet, enough to dust the cars, a half inch or so of snow, enough to dust the ground, then rain, freezing briefly, but eventually just plain old rain. It rained hard during the night. We got an inch. The temps started out in the morning in the mid to low 20's. All day long the temperature slowly climbed. By night time it reached 47°.

December 14, 2005 - Wednesday
Some good news!! Carman, my mother-in-law, is feeling a little better each day and though she is still quite weak, they might let her go home this week or the first of next week! Please keep her in your prayers!

Ice? Did someone say ice? They say it will turn to rain, but will freeze when it hits the ground. They say it will warm up and not be a problem for this part of Virginia....It has been so cold that the ground is frozen pretty solid. Will take quite a few hours of very warm temps to thaw the ground. So unless it rains really hard and is way above freezing, I think we might have some very icy conditions for a few hours. Hopefully, the storm will pump some warm southern air up the coast and ice will turn to rain, ground will thaw. We shall see.

Added my ancestor and Jim's ancestor pages, linked from the family pages, today. They are not complete, currently only have names listed. At a later date I will add information and photos, if available. But at least the basic pages are created. I will also put a link on my Kay Urie home page for The Price Family pages.

December 13, 2005 - Tuesday
Jimmy got home Sunday night just after midnight. He said they had a real good time. He told me some of their adventures until about 1:00 am. Sounds like they had a ball!!!

My mother-in-law had a pretty rough weekend, but she was doing a little better this morning. Her doctor said he was hoping she will be able to leave the hospital before Christmas, so please keep her in your prayers.

It's cold today, got up to about 37° but with a North wind, so felt colder. We don't get much wind back here in the woods, but today you could feel it a little. I just stay inside and keep warm! But I do love this time of year. We still have a little snow on the ground in the woods and shaded areas. Now they're saying significant icing is possible for Thursday. Don't care for the ice too much.

Been moving furniture and books around today, so I'm tired. Going to fix supper and take it easy tonight.

December 12, 2005 - Monday

Happy Birthday Dad!!!!

December 11, 2005 - Sunday
Jimmy called tonight around 7:30 pm to let us know they were on the road home. Should be here between 12:30 - 1:00 am. He doesn't have early classes tomorrow morning, since this is exam week, so he will be able to sleep in a little. He said he won't, since he wants to get a little more studying done. He studied on Friday quite abit already.

Please remember my mother-in-law in your prayers. She's on day 12 of her 2nd hospital stay and seems very weak. It's hard to be in the hospital for so long and especially this time of year. We're hoping she will be well enough to be home soon.

Jim & I went to town today and did our Christmas shopping. Done, man. In the morning, Jim worked on the computer and with the satellite company trying to figure out what's going on with our internet. Then he cut the tree that was across the lane. There's actually another one also that will need to be cut, but this one is high enough that the UPS truck can drive under it, so it will wait for another day.

What's this I hear about more snow this week???? Looks like temps will be too high for us to get snow. Really? Hm-m-m. Unusual December in Virginia.

December 10, 2005 - Sabbath
Today would be Deena Trew's birthday. She should be 48 years old today. Funny that I remember this. Dad & Kevin have a birthday this month. Nephew Andy had his earlier this month also. How time flies!

I'm going through the newspapers from my home county this afternoon. Dorothy saves them for me and gave me some on Thanksgiving. I hadn't had chance to look at them yet, so will do that this afternoon.

There's one pine tree across the lane. Our cars can get under it, so can Jim's truck. But the UPS driver had to back out and come in the other way. He wasn't real happy about that, which I can understand. What a pain to have to back up that big truck in our icy lane! So Jim will have to cut it down on Sunday. He said it's not a super big tree so shouldn't be too hard.

Jimmy left for North Carolina around 1 pm this afternoon. He and some friends are going to a Yu-Gi-Oh Regional Competition on Sunday. It's about a 5 hour drive, so they left today in order to be there when the doors open on Sunday morning at 8 am. They'll come back tomorrow evening.

December 9, 2005 - Friday
It didn't get very warm today, stayed in the mid-30's. So we still have snow cover. Last night we picked up about an inch of sleet and maybe a quarter inch of ice, not much and not bad. Roads are ice covered, at least the back roads, but the highways are clear. Jim stayed home from work, since the roads were icy in the morning. College was closed till noon, so since Jimmy's Friday classes end at noon, he was off for the day also. Nice to have most of the family home for a day!

Jimmy & I worked on his room, changed some furniture around in his room and Seth's room. Jimmy needed a place where he can spread out his school books for studying. The kitchen doesn't work, since I always have the table piled with one thing or another. Plus more distractions for him. He also likes to be where he can access the computer, so we got him fixed up. Still need to finish picking up my stuff but will work on that this week.

December 8, 2005 - Thursday
Well, we still have some snow on the ground. But it's only 35° today, so far, (it's 1:30 pm - which should be close to the high for the day), so don't think we'll have a lot more thawing this afternoon. Originally, the forecast for tonight's storm had us in the 2-4 inches band. Now they have changed it to 1-2 inches, since we are supposed to get more icing, then sleet, finally turning to freezing rain, then maybe, hopefully pure rain. If the temperatures stay close to or just about freezing, we'll have a mess, ice coatings, trees down, loss of power. But if it just stays above freezing, then that's the best case scenario. Or snow, not so bad if there's no ice. We shall see.

Started my new meds last night. I swear I feel a little better today. Seems like I have more energy. Could be? Wouldn't that be great?! I'll know after a few days for sure, but I'm thinking that so far, this is a positive thing!

Our local alert just said 2-4 inches for King George County. Hm-m-m. These coastal storms are so hard to predict. I heard one weatherman say that the Mid-Atlantic area was the hardest area to do weather predictions on, both for hurricanes and snowstorms....We shall see...

My mother-in-law is still in the hospital, so please keep her in your prayers and thoughts.

December 7, 2005 - Wednesday
Pearl Harbor day, a day that many will never forget. An event that plunged the United States into a 4 year war to end all wars. We owe our freedoms to the brave men that fought in such perilous times. And Pearl Harbor Day, a day to remember those who were murdered while moored in a harbor in paradise.

Had my doctors appointment this morning. Then did a little shopping, mostly in case we get snowed or "iced" in over the next few days. Predictions are still somewhat ominous as far as icy-snowy conditions, sleet and a mixed bag. The sleet and ice will hold accumulations down somewhat for our area, but trust me, the ice can be much worse than a snow storm.

We still have snow on the ground today. I couldn't get into my car this morning, the doors were all frozen shut. Finally had to haul out hot water to get the drivers side open. In town, about 2 hours later, I braked suddenly, and all the snow on the roof came down onto my windshield. It was really funny! (Doesn't take much to entertain me...)

Got our Christmas tree today. It's a nice size one, with the long needles. I think it's a White Pine, but it was very symetrical and full, which I like! So, will decorate it in the next couple days as I finish cleaning up around the house. Tried to get my bookcase and cabinet today, but they didn't have either one in stock. So will try again at a later date.

My mother-in-law is still in the hospital, so please keep her in your prayers and thoughts. Well, I'm tired tonight, so will stop right now. More later....

December 6, 2005 - Tuesday
Best case scenario. We got 6 inches of snow at 31°. This means it was a wet, heavy snow. We had power flicker on & off several times during the night, but never lost it for any length of time. There were some trees down in the lane, but nothing too big, fortunately. And today, it is currently 39°, so snow is melting fast. It's cool, 'cause here in the woods it looks like it's still snowing, with all the snow coming down out of the trees. Sometimes huge clumps of it. I went out around 9 am and took some photos of the woods, because it was so beautiful.

That is one thing that I will say, in Westminster we always had the real dry snow, very difficult to make snowmen etc. But it was easy to sweep off the deck and sidewalk. Here in Virginia, we get the heavier, wet snow, which may be more difficult to shovel (can't sweep it), but it is so much more beautiful. It sticks to the trees and limbs and virtually turns the woods into a winter wonderland. If you would like to see my photos, click here. I shoveled off my steps and porch so that when the sun hits it, they will melt and dry off before refreezing tonight. Supposed to be very cold tonight.

We received a beautiful basket of chocolate and candies from Liz last evening! What a surprise! It was really beautiful and it was so nice of her to send it to us! We will definitely enjoy it thoroughly! We took a photo of it so Seth could see what it looked like, as Jim said, Just in case it doesn't look the same by the time Seth comes home for the holidays!! Thank you so much Liz!!!

Still sorting papers in my room. Can't believe how many I let stack up that needed to be filed. And I haven't even really printed but a small percentage of the data I have been receiving, for example, on my genealogy. I've just been saving it to my hard drive to go through later. But I do tend to save catalogs that have neat stuff in them, so that I can maybe make a similar item at some future date. All of these are on my "To-Do" list.

December 5, 2005 - Monday
Predictions for us are 4 - 8 inches. So far nothing. All the moisture is staying south of us. But the weathermen say it will make it to our area by late this afternoon. We'll see.

Please keep my mother-in-law in your prayers. She is still in the hospital with pneumonia.

Trying to clean up my room. Have tons of papers, magazines, books and more stacked all around. Things to be filed, things to be scanned, things to be looked at and tossed, well, you get the idea. Slow going, since I'm trying not to handle things 10 times. Pick up one item and deal with it. Want things all cleaned up for the holidays, you know? Hoping to decorate for Christmas this weekend. It's about time, you think?

I sent an email out about Target, that I had received. Turns out it was just another internet hoax. I normally check them out on the website, but didn't do this one, so I have sent out my apologies to everyone that I mailed it to.

Working on my room, actually starting to see some floor!! I was beginning to wonder if I ever would. One day at a time, one room at a time..... I'll eventually get there. We've currently got maybe an inch of snow on the ground and it's still snowing. Hope we don't get too much. I can't go anywhere for days and days when it snows. Not that I go anywhere much anyway, but the point is, I can if I want to. If it snows, then I can't. It's so beautiful coming down, used to love it in Westminster. I still love to see it come down, but then in 24 hours I want it gone.

December 4, 2005 - Sunday

Happy Birthday Andy

Today Jim found these neat little weather "stickers" that you can add to your webpages for free, showing your own current weather conditions!!!! SO COOL. I've added one to my home page at kayurie.com, as well as a sunrise-sunset sticker. Also added it to my Holiday's page and if you look above the little midi player, you will see one on this page. I've added some other ones to my weather page and n4kup.com home pages. He also found a little weather program that comes up on your desktop with all your local conditions etc, and you can add other cities on the side bar...for example, I have my home town as the main info page. Then I've added Seth's city, my parents, and each of my brothers' cities. So now I know that it is 55° at my house, 40 ° at Seth's in New Mexico, my parents in Maryland are currently at 46°, Ed's house is at a cold 28° (well, after all he lives near the North Pole in br-r-r-r-r cold Michigan), and last of all my brother in California reads 54°, but he's humidity is only 19%, while at my house temp is about the same, but we have a balmy 74% humidity.

Snow is predicted, starting tomorrow thru night. Two to four inches for the Richmond area and four to eight for DC. Since we are about halfway between the two locations, hm-m-m-m, should be interesting. I'll believe it when I see it.

December 3, 2005 - Sabbath
I've updated my Family page using the same format that I used on Dad's pages. I used a different color background and added some additional links at the bottom of the page, linking to Mom's page, Denie's page, Deena Trew's page and a couple new links to the My Price family page (under construction) and My Ancestor's Page (also under construction).

I want to finish Mom's page, now have copies of more photos of her. Also will set up My Ancestor's Page which will have photos of my grandparents and great-grandparents, etc. I will also link that page to my Genealogy pages at UrieFamily.com.

The Price family pages will be on my husband's side of the family, parents, brother and his family, nieces and nephews etc.

Eventually, as time allows I will set up more pages for individuals, such as "photo album" pages of my sons from birth to current times. Should prove to be very time consuming!

Our church group will be in the Christmas parade in Fredericksburg tonite. I think this is the 3rd year they have participated. I haven't gone before and had decided I would go this year. But I'm still coughing alot, especially at night, so better not go sit out in the cold all evening. I think this is what happened last year too. Always have a cold around Thanksgiving. So I'm working on my pages instead, wishing them a good time on the float.

December 2, 2005 - Friday
My mother-in-law is back in the hospital with pneumonia. Apparently, the doctor only gave her one week of antibiotics after she left the hospital before, thinking that her pneumonia was about cleared up. Should've had a couple weeks, so it came back. They have her on antibiotics via IV and are going to keep her in the hospital for a few days. Keep her in your prayers for a quick and full recovery.

Did some grocery shopping and picked up Chinese for supper. The nice guy at the restaurant saved me the new 2006 Chinese Calendar! I have been getting those for several years. They are really neat. So that was cool. I didn't eat as much as normal, cause I also got the egg-drop soup, which is very filling and less calories! So that was all good too.

We had a good frost this morning and I saw some flurries going to town. But it quickly warmed up to about 47° by mid-afternoon. However, it is 9:30 pm and already the temperature has dropped to 28°. YES. Winter has arrived. It's about time!

December 1, 2005 - Thursday
Oh, WOW!!! Only 24 more shopping days until Christmas. Only 23 more shopping days until Christmas, if you celebrate it on Christmas Eve. And if you take out the Sabbaths, well, only 20 shopping days left. I'm not ready. Still have shopping to do. Still don't know what I'm shopping for. HELP!!!

Now don't get me wrong. This is my favorite time of year! I love Christmas. Family get-togethers, turkey dinners, opening presents, the Christmas tree and lights, Christmas decorations and all the anticipation of the coming day.

Seth is coming home for Christmas so we're really excited that he will be here. New Mexico seems so very far away. Nice to know he can hop on a plane and be here in (5-6 hrs flight plus changing planes and 3 hour drive on this end) say, in about 8-9 hours! He can only be home for a few days this year, but we'll enjoy what time we have!!!

We have been offline for 2 days, so if you missed the end of my November journal, you can look at the bottom of this page and click on "November" to read it. Nothing special going on. We're just happy to be back online again!!!
