February 28, 2006 - Tuesday
The last day of the month. You know, when I started this month, those little pulsating hearts on the page were so cute. Now I'm really glad I won't have to look at them again! They were really giving me a headache! So it's onto a new month.
What will March bring? Well, you know the saying, in like a lion, out like a lamb or vice versa, in like a lamb, out like a lion. It's predicted to rain, so can we call that the IN like the lion????
I have plans for the March news journal, but right now I'm tired enough that I can't remember what they are. So goodbye to February and goodnight to one and all.
February 27, 2006 - Monday
Went to a local "Crop" today. I really enjoyed myself and got a couple pages done. A "Crop" is a get together at someone's house to work on Scrapbook pages. You bring some of your own supplies or you can use someone else's also. Most people are very nice about sharing. You show your pages and look at what others are working on. Great for ideas!
Seth sent links about the thing his undergrads did in Florida back in January. Associated Press picked it up, so it's now being covered by USA Today and other big National news medias! So Cool.
Didn't get alot of sleep last night, no reason, just couldn't sleep. So am going to call it a night right now.
February 26, 2006 - Sunday
Worked on sorting and filing papers in my room for part of the afternoon. It was cold and breezy outside, so didn't really go out and do anything all day. Just a lazy Sunday!
February 25, 2006 - Sabbath
I'm in the process of scanning my old W.C.Moffett photographs for the reunion coming in May. Really a lot of old memories associated with those photos. I went there for 9 years, grades 2 thru 10th. I'm not sure who is in charge of the reunion, but I'll get the photos to Dad, so that he can get them to the person responsible. I don't know how many others have photos, but I have quite a few. Mom was good at taking photos when things were going on. Plus I have yearbooks, but I think they already have those available. I'm looking forward to the event, hoping to see some of my old friends!
As I scan the photos, I'll do a page or so on those years to have online also. Should prove to be interesting. Hopefully, some of the old students who have not stayed in touch, will come across some of the info in time to attend the reunion!
And I have actually got the basic page started, however, it is not uploaded yet. I will upload it later this week. I have the main W.C.Moffett page almost ready, and so far, three linking pages, yearbooks, photos and memories. I may add more if needed.
Eventually I will also do this for the Rock Hall SDA School and Blue Mountain Academy. I also have a photo from my Kindergarten which was in Rock Hall. I'll post in my journal when each of these pages are uploaded.
Well, it's still in the 40's outside at 11 pm, but the wind is starting to blow slightly. I'm showing around 14 mph currently. Think it's supposed to blow up around 40 mph tomorrow. Less than half as hard as it blew during Hurricane Isabel in 2003. That was UNREAL. I cannot imagine what the folks in Mississippi & Louisiana went thru during Katrina. Not interested in experiencing that, no, never, don't even want to think about it!
Especially with all the trees we have around the house. Nope. Isn't it funny how I wasn't afraid DURING Isabel, but when I saw the trees down, NOW I worry about it.....
February 24, 2006 - Friday
I'm sitting here typing on my journal with the Gaither's in the background. I really love all the music. I would absolutely LOVE to be just a back-up harmony singer in the group. Hm-m-m, wonder if they could use another 50 something in their group????
We have a really WEIRD weather alert in effect right now.
Fire conditions will be potentially hazardous for the next few days.
Good drying with near red flag conditions this afternoon. Winds will
gradually subside during the day while humidities drop to 10 to 30
percent...driest in west central Virginia.
For Saturday... winds will increase during the day and will be
gusty during the afternoon as our Arctic front nears the area.
Temperatures will also be warmer tomorrow ahead of the front. The
combination of the two will potentially bring winds above 20 mph
and relative humidities below 30 percent during the afternoon.
That will combine with fine fuels that will have dried out after
today.
Sunday will be much colder...but dry and windy again. It will again
be close to critical fire weather conditions.
A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions
are forecast to occur.
And now we've just received another alert......
A strong cold front will approach the area Saturday. Ahead of the
front winds will increase out of the southwest during the morning
to 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph. The cold front is expected
to reach the Shenandoah Valley early Saturday afternoon...reaching
the Chesapeake Bay by early evening.
After the passage of the cold front...winds will quickly shift to
the northwest with 40 mph wind gusts possible until late Saturday
evening.
Fire hazard and possible trees down. Bottom line. We always have the fire stuff, but the last few years it has been pretty wet. But regardless, there are no open fires allowed in the spring here in King George. Maybe it applies to all of Virginia, I don't know, but the signs go up every year around the area. Back in the time around the end or just after the Civil War, a big part of this county was burned by a forest fire. So I wonder if that's why this law exists?
Did some grocery shopping today, with Jimmy's help. I don't often put alot in my logs about either of my boys, don't want to embarrass them. I could really gush on alot about both of them but just had to comment about what a big help Jimmy is to me! He does all the heavy lifting, loading and unloading and hauling stuff to the basement freezer for me! Saves me alot of steps!
I don't always put in my journal about Seth calling either, but we talk to him a couple times or more a week. New Mexico is a LONG ways away!! He called last night to tell me that he had gone to Albuquerque for a Virginia Tech chapter reunion. Lo and behold, he met a couple older guys who graduated from VT (of course) but get this, they grew up in King George and are now living in New Mexico! What a small world!
On Friday evenings we watch "Riverview" on SkyAngel at 8:30 pm and then "Joel Osteen" at 9 pm. Both men are fantastic speakers. Phil Baker is the preacher on Riverview, which is in Australia. Sometimes, there are words or terminologies that he uses that are unfamiliar to us A-mur-ricans, but he just has the best messages. An inspiration. And Joel Osteen, well, young but so nice and really gives an uplifting message. His are very insightful for one so young. Thought provoking, without a doubt!
Man, those flashing, pulsating hearts are getting to be a nuisance! They are really giving me a headache! It's a good thing this month is almost over or I would have to take those off in another few days!
I still did my exercises before going shopping today, so my legs are aching pretty good, especially my achilles ankle. I did find a couple exercises online that supposedly will help that type of injury. Mine has been like this for years however, so will probably take awhile to fix. I tried them, very easy, stand a couple feet from the wall, put the bad ankle back about a foot or so and lean towards the wall, pushing off with my arms (almost like a wall pushup), keeping the bad leg straight and flat on the floor. It sounds simple, but actually hurts the achilles as soon as I do it, so it must be working. No pain, no gain, right? Again, that which doesn't kill us.........
February 23, 2006 - Thursday
Sticking to my exercise routine, though I think it may kill me. Actually, today is the first day that I didn't feel like passing out near the end of the 2nd lap! I was totally out of puff, which is normal, but seemed like I recovered quicker today. Maybe because I had alot I wanted to do around the house or something, who knows? Anyway, it seemed to go better today, like I had a second wind.
The bike is definitely the easiest of the two. It gets a little tough when I'm at about 4.5 miles, knowing that last ½ mile is close! But I'm sticking to it.
Not much else going on tonight and I'm tired so guess I'll call it a night!
February 22, 2006 - Wednesday
You know, at the beginning of February, I thought those little "beating hearts" were so-o-o-o cute. Now they're beginning to irritate me. Don't ask me why, but they just make my eye start to throb when I look at this page. It gives me a headache! Then I went and added the floating set, which always get right in the way when I'm trying to read what I've written..... GR-R-R.
OK, next month is coming and it will be calmer, I promise. March is always a transitional month in Virginia, starting to warm up, days are longer, spring bulbs are up and some blooming. Yeah, but sadly winter will really be gone then, so I'll stick with winter as long as I can!
Dreary weather. Cold rain. 38° and rain, you know the wet, cold type. North of us got flurries and even a little ice. No accumulations, to the best of my knowledge. Just sitting here at my computer, looking out the window, I'm cold. Winter has arrived! Going to be in the 50's tomorrow, but drop down to the 30's for the weekend. Currently we have a dense fog warning, meaning the ground is somewhat cold and we have warmer air moving in, at least for about 48 hours, creating dense fog.
Watching the American Idol this evening I commented on Simon (one of the judges). He is very opinionated and unforgiving. But don't get me wrong, I normally agree with his remarks, 95% of the time. However, I made the comment to Jim that Simon would be a hard man to live with. Jim informed me that not all men are as loving, forgiving, tolerant and understanding as he (Jim) is, and that I'm a lucky girl. And, I also have the advantage of his wisdom!
Yep. The truth is, it's the truth and I am a lucky girl. But don't tell him that I said so!
February 21, 2006 - Tuesday
I got my Drivers License renewed today. You go into DMV and get a number from Information. Then they call your number and you do whatever you have to do. Well, can I pick 'em. Today the line for the Information was an hour wait. Once I got my number, it took 10 minutes to do the application, pay, get the eye test, re-photograph, print-out and laminate the new license. Amazing. Anyway, it's done for 5 years. I didn't mind the wait, other than having to stand that long. But it's ok, I've crossed 5500 steps today!! I walked around in two separate Wal-Marts, and also another specialty store, plus did my treadmill and exercise bike. Man, I'm on a ROLL!
I really love all the emails that I receive from friends and family! Sometimes I laugh, sometimes I cry, all of them of thought provoking. I wish I could forward all of them to everyone and watch their expressions when they read them too. But alas, I forward quite a few as it is. All of them are saved. I have special folders set up because I know that one day I'll need just such a story or joke or photo to send to someone else. Ain't email just GREAT?!!!!
Anyway, keep 'em coming! It's awesome. I even get jokes from some online places. I have one website that sends me jokes daily, another weekly. So no matter what I'm dealing with in life, I can read a couple of emails and feel good again. But the best and most effective are the ones you receive from family and friends. It's neat to know that someone read something and thought about me as a person to forward it to, that perhaps I would enjoy it too. Ain't that just SO COOL. Before email, how many of you would even think about me that often? Or I of you?? So email has brought family closer, friends closer and gives us a way to reach out to say, "Hey, I thought of you when I read this and knew you would get a kick out of it too!"
Maybe that's an idea for next month's journal. January I did the New Year's Resolutions and the Cowboy Wisdom's. Maybe in March I should do jokes. Hm-m-m-m..... I'll think on it a while.
February 20, 2006 - Monday
Happy President's Day!!!!
There was this young boy on Martha Stewart this morning. He had published a trivia book on Presidents. As she talked with him, you could tell he was really a bright kid! And he would get excited telling about different presidents. He had busted some myths about some of the presidents also, such as George Washington did not have wooden teeth. His dentist's name was Wood and that's where the confusion had come about. Anyway, it was pretty neat. I'd love to get his book. He also collects the President Dolls but had only 12 of the 43. Martha told him they were giving him the remainder for his collection and also flying him and his family to Illinois to visit the Lincoln Library. He jumped up and hugged her, it was so cute!
We had about an inch or so of snow on the ground again this morning. It was snowing hard and 27° when Jimmy left for school. He told us the roads were bad this morning, but all clear this afternoon. We're supposed to get some more on Wednesday also. Winter has ARRIVED!!!!
Don't worry. It won't stay long. After all, it IS February. March is warm here in Virginia. My tulips are up 8 inches already. Don't know what this cold spell will do to them. They seem to be pretty tough.
Successfully did my 2 laps or ½ mile on the treadmill and 5 miles on the exercise bike this morning. All I know is, this HARD work BETTER pay off. I know, I know. That which doesn't kill us, makes us better.....
February 19, 2006 - Sunday
I've stepped up my game. Increased the treadmill to 2 laps (½ mile) daily and 5 miles on the exercise bike. This is week 3 of my exercising.
I haven't decided whether to give myself a permanent or not. I colored my hair last week after it was cut off. It's now a strawberry light brown or dark blond color. Hard to explain since I mix 2 colors to get the results. I like the color, it's different. The woman at the hair salon suggested the reddish for my complexion, but she also suggested blond highlights. I get those naturally because of all the gray. My hair is natural curly, so straight do's are alot of work while it's short. Anyway, I'll have to play with the hair for a few days to see if I want to perm it into a style or not.
It got down to 12° early this morning. Winter has arrived. It hit 40° during the day, in the sun, but wind chill had it feeling in the 20's. Currently, as I'm writing this, it is 28°. We had a dusting of snow, less than an inch, on the grass, but the roads were just wet. Later this week they are calling for more, but not accumulating.
Not much else to write about tonight. Tired but glad I have added to my morning exercises.
February 18, 2006 - Sabbath
It snowed today. Hard, briefly. We got a dusting on the grassy areas and the roads were wet. But that was all. Temperature was around 38°. Now, at 11 pm, the temperature has fallen to 21° and still dropping. Weathermen say into the teens for us tonight. Finally. Winter has arrived. The wind is blowing and it is officially cold! Won't last long, I'm sure, but I'll take it while I can get it!
This evening I was researching music on the "About" website. If you haven't been to the site, you should visit it. The About Website. They have almost any subject you can imagine, information and endless links to more. It's pretty cool.
Anyway, while looking at the music stuff, the links led me to webpages that have free sheet music that you can print, midis you can download and so on. Also did some instrument research. One of the things I'd love to own someday is a grand piano. Well, no, I cannot possibly get a Steinway or one of the "biggys". I don't know much about the brand names really. Is there a difference in the quality or are you just paying extra for the name? Actually, unless my ship were to come in, I can't possibly get any of them. Refurbished, non-Steinway's, like Yamaha, Kawai, which are also just beautiful, run in the $12,000 - $30,000 ball park. And where, oh, where, would I put it???? But one can always dream!
I have a "wanted" list that's almost as long as my "to do" list! Big Surprise!!!!
February 17, 2006 - Friday
Keeping an eye on the weather, calling for snow again for tomorrow, but accumulation of less than 1 inch. Nothing really bad to worry about.
Well, it is a long weekend, meaning Jim has Monday off for President's Day. He took off today also to make it a long weekend.
Really not much happening, just a routine day. Housework, cooking, dishes, exercises. Routine. I'm tired tonight so not going to prolong this.
February 16, 2006 - Thursday
Happy 31st Anniversary to Us !!!!
Yes, we've been married 31 years! WOW. An accomplishment! It's been a good 31 years too. It's true that every couple has their ups and downs. But if you love each other you can go through whatever life throws at you, together.
And it helps to marry a good man!!! One who tolerates whatever you throw at him over the years!
Jim took me to "Olive Garden" for our anniversary dinner and had Jimmy meet us there after classes! We got there at the perfect time, no wait! I had the Lasagna, which is my favorite! It was really good!!! Going there was a real treat!
OK. I've started putting up the Health pages. Currently I only have the Steps log online. But as the weeks and months go by, I will add some health information as well as more of my progress logs. And I'm adding today's record-breaking numbers in!!! I got 3125 steps today! AWESOME!!!!
Well, knowing how many steps I've taken today, now I'm extra tired! Guess I'll call it a night.
February 15, 2006 - Wednesday
I did it. I went to town and got my hair all cut off. Well, not ALL of it, but 12 inches or so is now trash in the beauty salon. It's about chin length and currently curly, but it's layered so I can wear it straight or curly. NO MORE PONYTAIL!!!!!
Jim was going to take a photo of it, but light is drifting away, so... maybe another day. You KNOW how I love getting my photo taken!
And even though I went to town to do some shopping today, I still did the treadmill and exercise bike and even drank all my water! I'm so proud.
The temperature hit 75° today! Snow is gone except in the total shade areas. Yet they are saying thunderstorms on Friday, cooler on Sabbath and arctic cold returning by late Sunday and possibility of more wintry precipitation by Monday? Wow! What can I say. They are just toying with my heart now!
I'm thinking about putting my steps log online. May put some other stuff online to keep a log of my progress. But first I'll start with the steps. I've noticed that I started hitting over 1000 steps a day when I started the treadmill and this week when I added the exercise bike I'm now hitting over 2000 steps a day. And that's "aerobic" steps not just every step I take. It knows the difference. Amazing. I can walk all around the house doing housework and the steps just don't add on, maybe 1 step for every 5 - 8 that I take. But going up and down my stairways immediately adds steps as do the exercises that I mentioned above. COOL.
OK. I've added my Steps page to my new Health page. So now everyone can track my progress or lack thereof. You will see my step count increase again next week as I add more time to the exercise bike. Hopefully.
February 14, 2006 - Tuesday
Happy Valentine's Day!!!!
We've been offline today, currently still. Jim is working on it with the satellite company, so if you're reading this, then you know we are back online.
My steps count was over 2000 yesterday!!! That's excellent for me. And I'm already over 2000 today. Walking that ¼ mile PLUS 2½ miles on the exercise bike really adds up! Will be nice when I can up it to 10,000 a day! I'm also drinking five 16 oz waters a day starting yesterday. So I've upped the stakes this week.
Otherwise a routine day. It is Valentine's Day and Jim brought Pizza home for supper! It was really good.
Is anyone watching the Olympics? I love the winter ones, but completely forgot to watch last night. And it was the beginning of the figure skating too. Dumb..dumb..dumb.
Paperwork, paperwork, where does it all come from? Seems like I have piles of paperwork everywhere I look. Paperwork incoming, paperwork to look over, paperwork to sort, paperwork to sort for filing, paperwork to file, paperwork that belongs upstairs and paperwork upstairs that belongs downstairs. And we won't even mention the basement. I'm pretty good at organizing. At least, it's Kay's organizing. I'm pretty sure no one else would look at this mess and call it organized. But it is. Basically. I can usually find whatever I need within 5 minutes of wanting it. But it would give a sane man a headache. As it is beginning to give me. I need a better system.
But how do you file all the genealogy papers, music books and songwords collected, and all the other various hobbies of paperwork I have collected? Recipes are easy. Just have several headers, like "Entrees", "Vegetables" or "Desserts" and file the recipes in the appropriate file. But some of this other stuff gets complicated. How's that? You ask?
Well, say for example you have located or received a family history of, let's say 8 generations, to make it simple. In my case, I normally connect into the 8 generations at about 4-6 places. So you make a copy for filing into the appropriate surname folders. Then you need copies of whatever supplemental records are available, death certificates, photos, census records and so forth. Also added to each surname. Then you need to add additional surnames to the "non" direct lineages, for future reference. Amazingly enough, about 75% of the time I'll make another one or two connections at a later date. This all has to be proofed, verified, copied and entered into the existing computer program that I use, which is currently Family Tree Maker. Then, of course, rechecked to verify that I didn't make a typographical error when entering in all the complicated data. See where I'm going with all this??? And this is just one aspect of the Genealogy hobby!
If you add in all the music paperwork, you know, songwords I have collected for 40 years, chords to be added, midi's to be found or made, incomplete songwords that I'm searching for, all to be entered not only into Word docs but into my music program to turn it into either WAV, MP3 or MIDI files. Well, we won't go there.
I haven't even mentioned all the printouts I have done over the years of "how to do's" for each of my hobbies. So you can see how the paperwork monster has grown. I've begun scanning many of my magazine recipes into the computer, and passing on the mags to my youngest sister-in-law, who I might add is a marvelous cook! I've actually cleared out one shelf of books by doing that. Now I need to do this with other hobbies. But it's slow and time-consuming. So it's on my "To Do" list!
Yea!!! We're finally back online. Obviously, or you wouldn't have been able to read my ramblings! BTW (that's 'By The Way') I am approaching 2200 steps for the day today!
February 13, 2006 - Monday
Well, our photo of the snow-laden antenna made it onto the NBC Channel 4 website as 110 of 162 photos. More photos are added periodically so the number is probably not the same now. But anyway, thought that was really COOL.
We hit 40° today but now we're dropping, already down to 36°. Warm air is supposed to invade our area about Wednesday, so winter will be over. This was a short winter. Two days. If I don't count the week in December. I love the winter and am sorry to see it go. On the other hand, spring is a pretty time of year too. Summer also, except for the stinking humidity, heat, bees, spiders and snakes. Fall is still the best and most favorite time of year. Not only is the air crisp and clear (or should be), but you have the bonus of the holidays.
School was delayed 2 hours since the roads were mostly clear. Still have snow on the ground, but there are completely bare tire tracks in the lane now and the snow is melting fast on the sunny areas of the yard.
My goal with exercising is to increase or add something each week. Last week I walked ¼ mile 4 mornings and did some basic stretch exercises. The treadmill time is 10 minutes. This week I've added 10 minutes on the exercise bike. That (at least today) came out to be 2.3 miles on the bike. Add to that the ¼ mile on the treadmill. Can I get anymore sore????? It's a real struggle. Frustrating too. Me, who used to run and be very active. I'm finding the treadmill is tougher on my achilles injury, my ankles, my knees and my hips. On the exercise bike I feel the stretching in the legs and mild pain in the achilles on the one leg. But I think the bike is easier to do.
So next week I'll increase the bike time and keep the treadmill steady at the 10 minutes. I thought that doing all this would make the weight pile off. Especially when you factor in that I'm not eating as much and have cut out ALL junk food. But NO-O-O-O. Course, I've only been at it faithfully for one week, so maybe some results will show up in a couple weeks of STEADY exercise. I hope.
Not much else going on that I can journal. So today's journal is all about me. But that's OK. After all, it is MY journal.
February 12, 2006 - Sunday
We can call it 6 inches! AWESOME!!!!! And because it was such a wet heavy snow, the trees are almost bent to the ground from the weight of it. We've had power flickering on and off, but thankfully, so far, we've come right back on each time. When I called my parents, they had been out for about 2 hours. So we are very lucky. Jim's antennas were bent to the ground, they are normally up about 6 foot. But now as the day ticks forward, his antenna has sprung back up to almost where it should be.
We were at 33° through most of the storm, only dropping below freezing for a brief time early this morning. We're up to 35° now, and large chunks of snow are falling around the yard. Only if you've ever lived in a woods can you understand the view of that scene!
I have pictures up that Jim took this morning of our yard. Click here to see them.
I submitted the photo of the snow bending Jim's antenna down to the ground, to the NBC channel 4 station in Washington DC. They have a place online NBC4 online where they post the viewer's weather photos all the time. So if you get a chance, check and see if our antenna photo made the cut. Sometimes they even choose some for the broadcast, so I'm going to watch tonight to see if they use ours. Doesn't matter if they don't, it will be neat to have it on their website archives anyway!
February 11, 2006 - Sabbath
Well, it started raining around 10 am this morning. The mix didn't start until about 3:45 pm this afternoon. It's been snowing, if not hard, just steady for several hours. We currently have a good inch on the ground. Where's the 8 - 12 inches they said we would get?????
Don't get me wrong. I'm happy with the inch. Even up to 6 inches is cool. With the temps predicted to hit mid 50's by Wednesday, snow will all be melted. So bring it on! Even a foot would be mostly gone by then with those temps! The temperature has been hovering around 33° so it has taken awhile for the snow to stick. And the snow is a heavy wet snow because of that.
Watched some of the Winter Olympics tonight. They are my favorite. I enjoy the summer ones, but the skiing, snowboarding (new), ice skating, speed skating, luge, bobsleds, well, it just can't be beat!
I added the little floating hearts on my page, as you can see. It's a neat little JavaScript that I can modify easily to use in other pages and scenarios.
February 10, 2006 - Friday
Our latest alert from the weather service is 4-8 inches, with the possibility of up to 10 - 12 inches. WOW. I'll believe it when I see it. It's supposed to hit the upper 50's by Weds next week, so whatever comes, won't stay too long. I suspect, if we get anything, maybe 6 - 8 inches. We shall see!
Seth's medical tests results came in today. A couple of tests were not where they should be but can be corrected with meds. Most of the tests we were concerned about came in negative, so we're very thankful for that. That's all I'll say about it, been worried about it and am thankful for the results. Those of you who need to know anything, already do. If he wants anything else published, he will do so on his own website.
Mostly routine today once again. Laundry, a few groceries to get us through the big "storm". The stores were nuts today. Well, the stores weren't nuts, but the people were. You'd think a blizzard was coming. I couldn't hardly walk through the aisles with a cart. It was like Christmas shopping. Very crowded, but no Christmas spirit. Bread & milk were being taken directly from the restockers carts, instead of letting him get stuff on the shelf. I finally gave up, after getting some essentials, and came on home. I can wait for other stuff. I did get bread & milk, which I hate to say was up to $3.97 a gallon today! What's with the high cost of milk????
I didn't walk the treadmill today because I got my ¼ mile in at the stores. So, I walked roughly a mile and a half this week. I'll do the same next week, then step it up to the ½ mile daily for a couple weeks. I know, I know, I've been saying this everyday. So it's MY journal.
Watched Joel Osteen tonight. He's a evangelist. No, he's not an Adventist, but he is definitely an inspired young man. His message tonight was on positive thinking. I thought he really had some good things to say about it. How, no matter what problem you are trying to conquer in your life, for God to work with you, you must have a positive take on it. It's the same thing our preacher, Charlie, has been telling us too. You can pray to lose weight, but if you go around with a defeated attitude, it's not going to happen. You should say, I'm losing weight everyday. I'm looking better everyday. I'm just not hungry today. God has answered my prayers. And before you know it, it's true. Kinda like faith. Faith the size of a mustard seed is all you need. Whatever your "mountain" is that needs to be moved, with prayer, positive thinking and just a tiny smidgeon of faith, it will happen.
February 9, 2006 - Thursday
One good thing about walking my ¼ mile each day, my steps on the pedometer are over 1000 everyday now. Really got to step up the program to hit 10,000 daily! It's gonna take some time! I'm starting out slow, only doing the ¼ mile daily for the first couple weeks. After that I'll increase to ½ mile for a couple weeks. Then more until I'm doing a couple miles daily. But it is gonna take awhile! My hips and knees are objecting stronger each day. My doctor said to add Tylenol to my meds as a supplement for awhile and tough it out. So that's what I'm doing. (He actually told me that a long time ago!)
Another routine day. I'm actually a little moody today. First the weathermen said if we get anything it will definitely be snow. HA. Now they have the snow line north and west of us. Idiots. If it's a coastal storm, they just don't have a clue. They build it up then nothing happens. Or worse, we get ice. I don't want ice. I don't want a lot of snow. Just a little. Haven't had any since December. Doesn't seem like winter. My tulips are up 7 inches. We haven't had a good winter for about 5 years. Sure we had some good ice storms and plenty of snow when I was working and had to drive in it.
Well, really it is a blessing in disguise, since Jimmy and Jim both have to drive in it and I don't want to be worrying about them on the road. Well, it's certainly cold enough at night, so it's possible we could get some ice if it hits at night time. We shall see.
Some days I feel like I'm spinning my wheels, can't get organized or something. I start out pretty good in the morning, but seems like after 3-4 hours, I slow down. I always have such good intentions, but seems like I just can't get caught up. I'm just in one of my moods today. Tomorrow's another day, and it will be better. Nothing is wrong, noone is sick, not worrying about anything in particular, just in one of those moods.
I think the promise of snow and then having it snatched away probably started it. Though in reality, I can't understand why. We live on a long lane, up and down hills etc, so it is a major pain if we get even a little bit of snow or ice. Just means I can't get out for weeks. Not that I go anywhere anyway, but still, knowing that I can't is extremely frustrating. So why on earth I wish for snow is totally beyond me.... I'll just chalk it up to a woman's perogative....
February 8, 2006 - Wednesday
Did my ¼ mile, same time (10 minutes). So chalk one up for me for stickin' tuit! I recover within 15 minutes now so that is getting better. When I say I recover, I mean my pulse drops back down into the 90's and BP down to it's normal 110/70 or so. Not bad.
We had some flurries this evening. Now my Ambient Weather is alarming about the snow possibility for this weekend. Finally. We might see some winter. Actually it's a 50/50 chance. Personally, I'd like to see it start snowing on Friday evening and be all gone by Sunday night. Perfect snowed in weekend, but freedom by Monday!! At least they aren't concerned about the rain/ice/snow lines this time. The weathermen say if we get it, it will be all snow. We shall see. I mean, after all, that Virginny groundhog did see his shadow, right?
Normal housework day, laundry and miscellaneous odds n' ends to do as usual. Pretty mundane to the casual reader. But I can handle it. The more I get organized and cleaned up, the more time I will have for some of my neglected hobbies!
February 7, 2006 - Tuesday
I walked my ¼ mile today again. I know it's not much, but every little bit has to help, right? Anyway, I'm going to keep at it.
Tired today, and a few muscles are, well, not sore but almost. I did try some of my stretch exercises yesterday, so suspect I stretched some things that haven't been stretched in awhile.
Just working on housework and routine stuff otherwise, no big accomplishments today.
February 6, 2006 - Monday
I walked ¼ mile today! I know that may not sound like much, but for me, it's an accomplishment! I also did the majority of my "stretch" exercises. I won't be able to move tomorrow, but for today, right this minute, it feels good.
It's only in the low 40's today! Bright, sunny and when you go outside, the air is so crisp and clean. It's wonderful. Love this temperature range! And they say it may hang around for a few days! I hope so!!!
February 5, 2006 - Sunday
It was a little cooler today. Closer to what it should be in February. Ran in the mid to upper 40's during the day. Storms last night were fast but not bad. I think the worst went both North and South of us, as they usually do. Jimmy was on his way home from Fredericksburg when the one line hit and he said the rain was coming down in sheets. We got ¾" here at the house.
Today is SuperBowl Sunday. Course the 'skins aren't playing so it's not a biggy here. However, we will probably watch it anyway. Normally I would cheer the East Coast team, whoever they are, this year being the Pittsburg Steelers. But we ('skins) almost beat the Seahawks, so if they win we are closer to being top dog ourselves. Seahawks have also been the underdogs so....I don't know who I will cheer on.
Nothing else going on today. I was feeling bad yesterday and not as bad today, but sugar is up, from being sick. I haven't eaten anything I shouldn't. So I'm not pushing myself to do any major things today. I slept alot yesterday and slept in this morning too. So I'm not tired. Will probably be back 100% by tomorrow.
Game is over, Steelers won. Were there ANY penalties called against the Steelers???? Seemed like they were calling a zillion on the Seahawks and even the announcer would say, that's not holding or that's not whatever...... I guess there is so much money in these games, how could they ever be honest?
February 4, 2006 - Sabbath
OK. So I was wrong. The sun didn't come out today. But it's still a better day! Right now, we've had ¼" of rain and it's thundering! Here's the alert we received this morning:
Due to a favorable wind pattern...any thunderstorms that develop
along the cold front could quickly reach severe limits. The
primary time of concern will be between about 4 PM and 8 PM. At
this time the primary area of concern will be east of the
Washington and Baltimore Metro areas...including locations such as
Fredericksburg...Annapolis...La Plata...and St Marys city. The
main threats will be damaging wind gusts of 60 mph...an isolated
tornado...and large hail. Brief heavy rain will also be possible.
So this could be a very interesting afternoon. We shall see. Next week we will be in more seasonable weather....40's - 50's during the day and mid 20's at night. Please. Just a little cold will do!
I worked on some of my "Holiday" pages last night. I will try to upload them soon. I haven't put the "meat" in them yet, just got the basic layouts started. And actually I'm still working on the Christmas page, all the photos that I want to add of our trees and past Christmas's. I'm slow, but it will eventually all be there. My life is an open book.
I got the new Gaither Catalog for 2006. So many things I'd like to get! But the one thing that really caught my attention is the advertisement for the Gaither Studios. Now you can record a CD at their studio, either of your own music or Gaither Soundtracks. It's very expensive, but would be really cool. Something to think about.
I also did some research into Public Domain music. I thought there were lists of songs that are public domain. And there are, just not online apparently. Basically, the best I could find is a search engine that you put the title of a song in and it will tell you if it is copyrighted or public domain. That makes things alot more difficult. Most old hymns etc are public domain so that is a good thing. But any songs that have been written in my lifetime, and the lifetime of my parents are not public domain.
So if I do a CD of hymns, it will have to be old traditional ones, nothing new. But to do a CD of newer songs, I'd have to get permission on each one. Better to write my own. Which I have written the words for 12 songs, but don't have music for them yet. Sometimes I hear a tune in my head for a couple of them, but just haven't been able to get them on paper.....
When the time is right, I believe the tunes will come to me. Just like the words did. So for now I just wait.
February 3, 2006 - Friday
Well, I had updated McAfee and ran a virus check on my system. Just to be safe. Found a virus, unopened in an email that Outlook had deleted. Other than that, my system was clean. It's still running, so I must be OK. You can't always believe everything you hear on TV or read on the internet. But I figured safe rather than sorry is the best route to take.
I've learned to live one day at a time, and that's what I do. So what I don't accomplish today will be put off until tomorrow. Tomorrow is another day, right? OK OK, enough with the song titles and movie quotes!
Guess I'm in a "Waxing Poetic" mood today. No biggy. The sun will come out tomorrow.
I hope.

February 2, 2006 - Thursday
Groundhog Day. In Virginia it dawned as a bright sunshiny day. The groundhogs locally would definitely see their shadows. That's assuming that they had been in hibernation in the first place. So when they see their shadows it means six more weeks of winter. OK. We haven't HAD any winter yet. Well, only a couple weeks back in November. Maybe, just maybe, we'll get a little in the next six weeks?
Just worked on housework stuff today. Jim had a doctor's appointment, just his routine six month checkup. All went well. Since it was in the afternoon, I rode along with him. We stopped in town and picked up a couple of my prescriptions and a few groceries and just came back home. Sounds very dull, but I enjoyed the outing!
My blood sugar has been running more in control. That's because I'm not eating anything junk food like. So that's good, but I get cravings for chocolate that are tough sometimes. Chocolate has always been my biggest weakness. I'm also learning what things send my sugar skyrocketing, like Special K - Vanilla Almond cereal. Can't eat that without a high reading. But salads are OK, I already use the Fat Free dressings and very little cheese is my compromise. I love salads, so that is good. The other night I wanted something really bad, so I sliced up a tomato and put just a little bit of mayonaise on it. That took away the cravings! I'm learning to keep things like that in my frig to stop the overeating. Today I have some carrots already cut up for tonight if I get hungry. Whatever works.
February 1, 2006 - Wednesday
WOW!! Aren't those little pulsating hearts cool? It's already February. This is the month of Valentine's Day. Also, our Anniversary. Thirty one years together. 31 YEARS!!! Unbelievable. No other big family days this month, but President's Day is the holiday for the month also.
Now you ask again, have I kept all of my resolutions? Have a kept most of them? Have I kept a few of them? Have I kept any at all? I sound like I'm on the "Price is Right". Well, it's like this. Some are long term projects that I may not get started on until summer or next fall. Doesn't mean that I haven't kept my resolution yet. Others were supposed to be done immediately. Most likely I failed those. Some anyway. Some I'm working on. Some are in planning stages. I'll get more specific as the year goes by.
I've decided not to continue listing all my resolutions this month. I need to be working on them, plus most of them should go under "Projects To Do" or "Unfinished Projects to Complete". So, no more resolutions, for now.
The sun is out, it is in the 50's and it is February the 1st. Where is winter????? They keep saying it's coming back, but I haven't seen it yet.
