December 31, 2007 - Monday

Today is New Year's Eve, and it was raining still this morning. The sun came out late afternoon so that is a little more cheery. Jimmy & Jessica are still waiting for electricity and they have to move today from the apartment. So it appears they won't have power for the first few days in their trailer. The inspector hasn't called the power company to confirm the passing of inspection and told them he'd do it when he felt like it. So they're waiting on his whim....

I know that I didn't get as much done this month as I had originally planned. But December is always a busy month, so my reading and miscellaneous projects always fall by the wayside until January. I got some genealogy books for Christmas, bought a couple new hobby type books, a couple new art how-to books, got some fresh new ideas for the new year, for eBay sales, for doin' around the house. It will be a busy New Year! But for now, let's finish out December.

Well, not only is this the end of the month but it is the end of the year! No, I'm not going to summarize my entire year of accomplishments for you because I've been doing that each month. And that's how it's going to continue.

So, with that said........

December 30, 2007 - Sunday

Rainy and dreary today. We bagged up some garbage, wrapping papers, boxes etc from the holidays and made a trip to the dump, picked up Chinese for lunch. Watched some TV, time online and another late afternoon nap completed the day. Jimmy & Jessica are still waiting for electricity in the trailer so couldn't complete the move yet.

December 29, 2007 - Sabbath

Seth, JoAnna & Joey left today for their trip back to New Mexico. They are taking a different route back so they can visit some more family and friends along the way. Seth will have details on his website in the next couple of weeks, I'm sure! We sure had a wonderful time with them and we're so glad they spent the holidays with us!!!!

After they left we watched my Jesse Duplantis DVD that I got for Christmas. It is SO good!!!! Then we both fell asleep on the sofa until night time. We watched a little more TV and then called it an evening. It was so quiet with our company gone, I missed having them here already. Guess it's a little "post-Christmas" blues. But we will get busy doing stuff and we're also tracking them on their journey so that helps.

December 28, 2007 - Friday

Not my typical Friday where I work on housework. I'm just kickin' back and enjoying the family for the day, while I can. It's really been nice having them here from New Mexico. They've had quite the adventure this time too and it's not over yet. They drove here and are driving back a different route so to visit more family and friends and see new scenery and stuff. Cool!!!!

I know that Seth will post photos and stuff about their journeys on his webpages after the holidays! I'll post a link here at that time.

December 27, 2007 - Thursday

All of our gang met at Olive Garden for a late supper tonight. Man, was it ever good food!!! I tried a new dish called something Apricot Chicken. It had broccoli, asparagus and tomatoes with chicken covered in a delicious apricot sauce! Awesome! My NEW FAVORITE at Olive Garden!!!

The kids went on to do some shopping and stuff and us "older generation" headed back home for the evening. It was GREAT having all the family together!

December 26, 2007 - Wednesday

Spent the day shopping! JoAnna and I hit all the hobby-craft stores around town and enjoyed every minute of it! We met the guys for lunch and supper and made it home by around 9 pm. Watched a movie and now we're calling it a night.

December 25, 2007 - Tuesday

Merry Christmas !!!!

Joey had fun opening packages, said it sure looked like Santa Claus had visited our house. It was a very, very nice Christmas even though not all could be present. I fixed my turkey dinner and we ate it as a late supper. Turned out pretty good. Again, it was really a nice Christmas. Santa was very good to us all!!!!!

Now, was Santa Claus good to YOU this year? If not Santa, how about God? I know both were good to us all year. We've been so very blessed, it would be hard to list all the blessings. Just know that it is true!

We didn't get a "group" photo of the Price family this year, but after the holidays I'll post some "faces of Christmas at the Price's ". However, here is the one from the Urie family Christmas! Lot of missing family members because of many living in other areas of the US or other plans, but those of us who were there had a great time!

2007 Urie Family Christmas
Back Row Standing: Penny, Kevin, Dad, Kyle, Seth, Jim, Kay
2nd Row in Chairs: Mom, Stephanie, JoAnna
3rd Row on Floor: Jessica, Joey
Merry Christmas !!!!

December 24, 2007 - Monday

Got together with the families and it was very special. Wish all of the family could've been there, but we had a really GREAT time!!!! Merry Christmas y'all!!!!! It was so nice to have our annual family gatherings!

December 23, 2007 - Sunday

Worked on some more housework once again and then watched some TV. I really love watching Christmas movies this time of year.

December 22, 2007 - Sabbath

We took a 5 hour tour today, not quite on purpose. Had to go somewhere and traffic on 95 was a parking lot south bound for over 35 miles, so we decided to try Route 1. It too was a parking lot, so we went west. We kept going as the road veered northwest thinking that we'd finally hit an eastbound road. We finally did but it took awhile. Jim said we detoured so far north to go south that he considered pulling off the highway so he would see the Northern Lights. Tee Hee Hee. We weren't THAT far north!!! We finally got home around 8 pm when we should've been home around 4 pm. But we enjoyed ourselves anyway! Just another Price family adventure!!!

December 21, 2007 - Friday

Today I did alot of grocery shopping. Got my turkey and stuff for the dinner. Tired. Going to bed!

December 20 2007 - Thursday

More shopping, more housework, not getting as much done as I'd hoped but will do what I can do. The rest will just have to wait. It's certainly not going anywhere!!!!

December 19, 2007 - Wednesday

Busy days working on stuff around the house and shopping when I get a chance.

December 18, 2007 - Tuesday

Busy day. I should start everyday's journal this month with those two words! Busy Day! Yes, it really was. I moved stuff, sorted stuff, stacked stuff, unstacked other stuff, put stuff together, took things apart, filed stuff and put some stuff away to deal with after the holiday. And that was just in the morning! Yep. Busy day.

And the worst part of it was, you can't see the progress that I made, with all that hard work. I still have stacks of stuff and clutter, no matter how many times I stack and re-stack stuff. Well, that's just the way I am. I believe most people would call me a pak-rat. But I'm a happy one, so what difference does it make????

Tomorrow is another day. I'll probably move some more stuff, sort some more stuff, stack some more stuff, unstack some more stuff, well, you get the picture, right???? Busy day.

December 17, 2007 - Monday

Another busy day, but in town not at home. I had two doctor appointments, one with the Ear, Nose & Throat doctor rechecking my ears and hearing. The other was my routine 3 month checkup with the Internal Medicine doctor. The ENT said my ears are alot better, duh, since I'm hearing alot better now. Said there is still a little fluid in there, again-duh, since I still have some distortion. I'm not making fun, just being silly. He suggested a couple little procedures, but I asked him to wait and see how things progress in the next month or so, before doing anything else. So he was ok with that.

The 2nd appointment with my regular doctor was good. They were short-handed since one of the ladies was absent. So no bloodwork, no weighing on the scale. MERRY CHRISTMAS! Don't worry, it all gets done next time but I was glad, since I know I have eaten too much over the holidays! It would make all my blood test out of whack and weight would probably show it also! So hallelujah, a reprieve till spring! Now, after the holidays, I'll have to work extra hard!

I also, in between the two doctor appointments, did a little more shopping. I think I'm about done now, so I can concentrate on the house again. Isn't it funny how I can find more excuses not to do housework????

December 16, 2007 - Sunday

This is just a busy time of year. We did some stuff around the house. Jim put the lights on the tree last night and it looks just beautiful! Today he decorated it while I was working on some laundry and stuff upstairs! Jimmy came by and carried the decorations for us which is a big help! So the tree looks GREAT!!!

December 15, 2007 - Sabbath

Our church had a Christmas program today. Otherwise it was a cold, damp-feeling day, overcast. Feels like snow, but it's not to be. We're well into the rain area of the storm. You have to go aways north to get into the ice or snow part. I guess it's for the best with so many people on the road this time of year, not to have ice and snow like they've been having out west and north. But I truly have a soft spot for the white stuff. (I don't know why because once it's here and on the ground, I'm ready for it to be gone!) Go figure.

Anyway, it's raining and the temps are hovering around 34°. It's not supposed to get any colder and actually, this low pressure system is going to pump some warmer air up over us. Supposedly.

After dark this evening, we brought the tree inside and got it set in the stand. Progress! Guess we'll put lights on tomorrow! It's a pretty tree, but I always say that!

December 14, 2007 - Friday

I believe that I've explained before about how I count my contest entries. I do a week at a time and then a monthly total also. My weeks run starting on Saturday night through the following Friday. So for this week the online portion of entries amounted to 735. I should start WINNING SOMETHING, don't cha think?????

Busy week. I'm a good worker, slow, but good. So I'm very slowly catching up on some things around the house. My hearing is about 95% back but still have a slight distortion with loud noise volumes, on the phone and if I try to sing. But at least I CAN hear once again. I believe the distortion will eventually disappear also. Remember that others who have had this same infection took 3 months to fully recover their hearing. I'm still in the 2 month area. So I'm very hopeful.

December 13, 2007 - Thursday

Housework, housework, housework. Wouldn't you think that my house would be clean and organized by now? It's not. But that's just the way we live. There will always be housework, so I'm not worried. Sometimes there are just other things that are more important. If not more important, well, more fun! Hey it's almost Christmas!!!!!

December 12, 2007 - Wednesday

Happy Birthday Dad !!!!

Happy Birthday Aunt Dorothy !!!!

AND

Congratulations Jimmy !!!!

Yes, their birthdays are on the same day! Guess why? They're twins! Hope you both had a wonderful day!!! And Jimmy for his good news about work!

What is with this summer weather? It was 70° mid-day today! And it's still in the 50's at after 9 pm! But those mean weathermen were saying it's going to change, and we're going to get snow. Yeah. Right. DC, North and West. South? Nah. Just gonna be rain for us. Oh well, maybe it's for the best when so much of the family is on the roads every day. It's just at Christmas, I like COLD weather! So please, please, no snow or ice, but a little colder would be nice. Hey. I'm a poet and didn't know it. Again, Hey.

I spent the day shopping, window shopping, and just overall looking at all the decorations! Guess by my inspired poetry above you can tell I'm tired. Well, I picked up some fruit that the church has shipped in for the holidays. Also picked up our Christmas Tree today! No, it's not up and decorated, nor will it be until the weekend. But we will work on it and the house over the weekend!

December 11, 2007 - Tuesday

This is a busy month, for sure. So much to do, so little time! But I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this time of year! Family coming to visit, family getting together, the whole holiday bit! It's SO GREAT!!!!

December 10, 2007 - Monday

Happy Birthday Deana Trew !!!!

I know this is a big year for you, wherever you are, so have a great day! I know you don't remember me but I will always remember you and hope to hear from you someday, would love to hear from you! Anyway, have a wonderful birthday!

Spent today catching up on some laundry and ironing. I had a ton of ironing piled up and decided to "attack" it today! So, as in a movie I saw once, ironin' done man! Only it wasn't ironing it was dishes but hey, it works. Can you guess what the movie was?

December 9, 2007 - Sunday

Tired tonight. We spent the day visiting the parents and had a great day! It was sleeting or a little bit of sleet mixed into the rain for about a minute on the Eastern Shore coming home. The temps over there were about 10 degrees colder than at our house.

December 8, 2007 - Sabbath

Ever since I saw the Advent Calendar in the movie "Christmas Vacation", I've wanted to make one or find one. But I could never quite figure out what I wanted, so I never did it. Well, the time is near once again and my thoughts turn to that Advent Calendar. So I've been researching online some of the various ones that people have made. Some are so-so, but some are AWESOME! I believe I've found the one I want to make, but there is no pattern for it. So I saved the photo and I'll revise it and make my own pattern and this, among many other items, will be added to my "To Do" list for next Christmas! When I make it, I'll take a photo of it and post it in these daily journals, as well as on my Christmas pages.

December 7, 2007 - Friday

Remembering those who perished, Pearl Harbor Day !!!!

In honor of Pearl Harbor Day I watched a 2 hr special on the History Channel all about the real "Tora, Tora, Tora: What really happened at Pearl Harbor!" It was really interesting. I didn't realize that they had saved 32 men through the hull of one of the ships, 36 hours after the attack. Amazing what all the men went through. Heroes, every one of them and all the men who served in WWII. Of course, I'm not forgetting Korea, 'Nam or Desert Storm or Afghan/Iraq either. It's just that today is in honor of those who served and died on December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor.

I moved a couple more pieces of furniture around today and continued my major cleanup. It's slow but it's getting there. I'm trying to put a few hours a day into sorting and tossing old catalogs and papers and such. Such a pack-rat! I save things I tear out of catalogs thinking that I'll make one of those someday or look for a used one on eBay someday or whatever. I get so many after awhile that it just piles up in stacks everywhere. So I'm done with that. Yes, I'll still clip interesting recipes and things, but to scan onto the computer and throw away the paper. If it's something that I may want someday, again, scan it on the computer and toss the paper away. Sentimental keepsakes are a different matter. Those I will keep always, but I need to organize better in that area. Hm-m-m-m, good project for hot weather, when I want to stay inside the AC.....

My contesting counts go from Friday through Friday, so for this week I did 716 onlines. That's pretty awesome. Won another little one, received a small peeler today. Still hoping for a big one! Who knows?

One of the problems I'm running into with the online contesting is that I have to re-copy the list each week for the contests that continue daily through a period of time. Some of the dailies I enter don't end until next year, I have one that goes thru next September and it's a daily entry. Those get copied over to the new logs each week. Maybe it would be easier to have two week logs or even one month logs. But I still need a weekly count so any ideas from you contesters out there????

Jim was going help me set the log up in Excel but it's easier to log on paper as I enter than to pull up the spreadsheet for each entry. You have to remember I'm doing over 150 a day which takes some time. To give you an idea, my log pages that I mark each day for each contests consist currently of 8 pages. Yeah, it's a little monotonous at times, especially when the internet moves slow to go from contest to contest. And there are some that go fast each time which is fun when I get to those pages. There are a few that have additional 2nd chance type instant win games that you do after your main entry. Those also take more time. I have one right now that lasts through January 2, 2008 which has the main entry then 10 instant win match type games (which are worth alot too). That one takes about 5 minutes to do. Otherwise they go pretty fast. I wouldn't do that slow one, except the prizes are SO great!!! I'd be happy even with one of the 2nd-3rd-4th etc place prizes. The Grand prize is TWO vehicles of YOUR choice or TWO vacations or TWO big screen TV's etc! WOW. Wouldn't THAT be COOL!!!!!

December 6, 2007 - Thursday

Just a light dusting of snow left on the ground and leaves this morning. Looked more like a heavy frost than snow actually. But the temp was a balmy 23° at 7:30 am. NOW we're TALKING!!!!

So I got another couple pieces of furniture moved around today. And believe it or not, still have another couple to switch tomorrow too. See the way it works is, if I move one, I have to shuffle all of the rest to make them fit! Basically, it's because I have too many books. I'm slowly going through them, but I don't want to stop and do that before Christmas at this point. So I'm shifting them out of the way (some of them in question) until later. I will probably put some of them on eBay after the holidays. And some I have things to scan out of them before I sell them, so that will definitely be in the spring!

Mostly, I don't want to part with any of my hobby type books. I have a lot of "how to" type books on art, sewing, quilting, scrapbooking etc. So those are definitely "keepers". Some of the older fiction books are the ones I'm going to list on eBay since some are out of print paperbacks, not worth much but to someone who is a big fan of that particular writer and trying to locate some of their earlier books. If they don't sell, I'll just trade them in at one of the local used book stores.

December 5, 2007 - Wednesday

We had the first SNOWFALL of the season here today. It started out cloudy and dreary looking (which I love)! Then it started to flurry. We ended up with just about ½" of the pretty white stuff and I'm so mad at myself for not taking a picture of it! I thought it was supposed to last through the evening so I kept working on other stuff. But it melted and just flurried off and on again the rest of the day.

Stayed home and planning to stay put from now on so I can get that pesky housework done. Today I moved a little furniture around. Jim was supposed to be working somewhere else and later than normal so I had things all torn apart when he came home early. He doesn't like changes so he stayed out of my way until I was done! I only moved a couple things. I just feel like I'm cleaning better when I move furniture around!

Still have a couple more pieces to move tomorrow, but I won't tell him that tonight!

December 4, 2007 - Tuesday

Happy Birthday Andy !!!!

Well, I had fun today. I took the day to do a little Christmas shopping and window shopping! I truly love going around to all the stores this time of year, seeing the shoppers, seeing the decorations, the Christmas spirit.... People are naturally more courteous this time of year. Why can't we all be that way all year long????

Anyway I picked up a @#$%!@#%$ for my nieces and @$#@%^$ for the boys and @#$^$#$#@ for Jim and so on. You didn't think I would actually list what I got for them, did ya????

December 3, 2007 - Monday

Worked on laundry, ironing and some general housework. I'm still in the sorting and organizing part of my fall cleaning! Also keeping up with the contesting. It's easy to fall behind in all of these items if I don't keep working at a steady pace!

December 2, 2007 - Sunday

I've added 4 old recordings to the Just Kay Singing Oldest Songs Page. One of them is one that sounds like it's coming through a long tube, since I kept re-recording in order to sing a trio with myself. Another one is of my brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nephew and myself, the first time we sang together. I was timid and they had just gotten the instruments to learn how to play. Notice my nephew on the mandolin! He was fabulous even way back then! Anyway, hope you get a kick out of them. Lots of good memories for me!

Did a little Christmas shopping again today. It's so fun to shop this time of year! I really love it. And all the Christmas stuff in the stores! Oh, My!

Lots of housework to accomplish the rest of this week. Want to get things all cleaned up so I can clutter up the house with Christmas decorations and such. Last year I put away my normal knic-knacs and then I actually had a place to put some of my Christmas knic-knacs! So, first the cleaning, laundry, ironing, vacuuming, dusting and all that good stuff. Then maybe next week I can work on how I want to decorate.

It was cloudy this morning and while we were in town it started raining. Hard enough that we lost internet and stuff when we got home, for a few minutes. Will check amounts tomorrow morning.

December 1, 2007 - Sabbath

So here we go. We're into the REAL countdown now! Only 24 shopping days left! Are you ready??? Huh??? Are you??? I'm not! but I'm definitely working on it. OK, OK I'm at least thinking about it! It is my favorite time of year!!! Seth & his family are coming and I'm SO looking forward to seeing everyone!

So I've been thinking about next year. I like to do something each month in this journal but I'm drawing a blank right now. Any suggestions??? Is anybody really out there??? Come on, I know you are and I know you have some suggestions. Not that kind of suggestion but ones I can use, please, in this public forum.

The weather sticker, the almanac and the important days have all become regulars for the months. But what can I do for something interesting on the daily journals??? Think about it and let me know. You can email me from the bottom of this page! I'll await your ideas!

The Christmas Parade in downtown Fredericksburg was this evening. I didn't want to be out in the cold air after all the trouble I've had with my ears, so we didn't go. I hope it went well.
