June 30, 2007 - Sabbath
Here it is, the end of another month. I just don't know where the days go. Seems like the older I get the faster the time goes....
No rain yesterday and though I received a storm watch this morning, I see nothing of it now online. It must've been one from a previous day, except I remember clearly seeing today's date on it, so..... Anyway, none listed at this time. There are a few storms in the Commonwealth, but mostly, South and West, so far. They seem to be moving in a due-East direction while sinking to the South, so they must be flowing along the frontal boundary that is slowly sinking southward.
What have I accomplished this month? Well, in some ways it wouldn't seem like I've done as much. At least in the reading areas. But I did practice music more this month and did more housecleaning than I had been. So, in that sense, I did accomplish quite abit. It just doesn't show up on this listing.

June 29, 2007 - Friday
We have hit 98° for the last three days. That's uncomfortable. No, beyond uncomfortable. Just too hot period. Not supposed to get quite that hot today. We shall see. And it's not really the heat that is so bad. It's the humidity. It was in the 70%'s most of those days, hit 87% on one occasion yesterday. To explain that to someone who lives in a part of the world where the humidity isn't a factor, well, it's like opening the door and having to use a knife to cut the air in front of you. It presses against your chest and feels like you can't take a deep breath. At least that's the way it feels to me. But then I have asthma, so what do I know? We always said it is like cutting through soup when it's really humid. Some people love it. Why else would people retire in places like Florida????? WAY TOO HUMID for me!
I feel like I've made some real progress yesterday in going through all the papers that had piled up for the last year. While I was in my various casts and in the wheelchair last year, I just didn't file or sort papers, just piled them and piled them until Christmas when they got dumped into tubs to get them out of the way for the holidays. Then it was totally out of control. I find it hard to throw away catalogs that I receive in the mail. But I'm doing it now. Just way too many. I get many for each of my hobbies and some come out every week. So you can imagine....
I'm also cleaning out closets and bookcases and such. I've set up a tub of stuff that I want to get rid of, but just cannot bare to throw away. Where I live, yard sales are out. So I'm going to put some stuff on eBay and try my luck there. "One person's junk is another person's treasures....." I hope.

Happy Birthday Dawn !!!!
Happy Birthday Jessica Q !!!!
AC man is supposed to come and check out the system to see why it's not working right. It's working some and with the temps in the upper 90's, inside feels REALLY nice anyway!!!! So I can't complain.
Have cleared out three large rubbermaid tubs of papers. Have 2 more to go. I've bagged up several bags for garbage and yes, I have several sorted piles to be filed. But at least it's down to a matter of filing and not sorting. That's the slow part.
Looks like one of the remaining tubs is totally genealogy printouts. So that will slow me down abit. I do several sorts on that stuff, according to what it is. If it's some general stuff about multiple families, then it is sorted and filed by what type of document it is, such as census records or family records. On the other hand, if it is specific about a person, then it can go into that surname folder. But if it is a female, it must go into her maiden surname folder. Not really so complicated, just time consuming.
Still, while I have the extra time at home, it is good to be accomplishing something!!!! Oh, yes. I finished Luke several nights ago and I'm halfway through John, in the New Testament.
There's storms all around starting to "pop-corn" up and we are under a severe storm watch until 11 pm. There isn't anything close to us right this minute on radar. However, it is believed that the whole area will be under the "gun" tonight as a front moves through, so we shall see. We could use some rain. Don't really need the 1.5" hail or wind gusts to 70 mph that they are predicting. I've seen more hail since we've lived in VA than I ever did before in my life. Still not alot or anything like what folks see in the midWest, but still.
Hail is interesting stuff. You get hail when the storms build high enough and the upper air levels are extremely cold. Think of it as a more violent change or upheaval of the weather. The greater difference in the temperatures as a front approaches or recedes, then the more severe the storm is going to be which is indicated by how high the storm builds into the atmosphere. It encounters colder air and in some cases, this fuels the storm even more. The more the rain is blown around in the upper part of the storm, encountering the colder temps, the larger the ice builds up until finally it is heavy enough that it can't be blown up into the upper storm part any more, so it falls to earth. Now imagine how the hail here on the East Coast sometimes gets to be over an inch in diameter. Then imagine if you will out in the midwest where they sometimes get baseball sized hail. Awesome thought, isn't it?
Do you ever dream about storms or tornadoes? I do. Just the other night I dreamed that I was in a different house and a tornado was coming. The wind was so hard that you couldn't see and I couldn't get the front door closed. I was telling people to go into the hallway but they wouldn't listen. It was like they didn't see the storm at all. Wild, huh? I often dream about storms and tornadoes, easily once a month or so in the spring and summer. Guess all the talk about it on the news is what triggers it in my brain. I also dream about snowstorms in the winter. Wishful thinking perhaps????
Just an added note; storms moved all around us once again, but we only received less than a trace of rain, didn't even register in the rain gauge and looked like a "connect-the-dots" on the sidewalk. Still a chance for us in the morning as the front won't push completely through us tonight. After that, nothing until next week. Which is really next month.
June 27, 2007 - Wednesday
Today I was scheduled for some medical tests. Stroke/Carotid Artery Screening, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening,; Peripheral Arterial Disease Screening, and Osteoporosis Screening. Will get results in a few weeks. At least they didn't go screaming and dialing 9-1-1 when they saw my results, so I guess that's a good thing. These are just tests for wellness, not anything suspected. It's good for anyone over 40 years of age to get these tests done. They are painless and only take a few minutes each. I'll post my results when I get them, if they make any sense at all.
June 26, 2007 - Tuesday
Again, just trying to keep cool. AC isn't working right, but it's still cooler inside than out. Getting paperwork sorted and filed. What a mess!
June 25, 2007 - Monday
Routine day, worked on housework. Hot & humid. Storms around us but nothing here at our house.
June 24, 2007 - Sunday
Don't get me wrong. The post I did yesterday shouldn't be mistaken as thinking that the 2nd coming of Christ isn't close. Quite the contrary. It is VERY near! I just think that the reference in Matthew is speaking of a more violent upheaval to come in the future just before the coming of Christ. What do you think?
Ran to town and did a little shopping today. Just wanted to get some tomatoes and a couple other items. Jimmy needed a bulb for his car and I needed some allergy meds. Course, you can't go to a Wally World without spending some money. I ended up getting a couple storage tubs for stuff that can be put in the basement and a couple other grocery items. It's always fun to shop anyway.
I'm going to double my efforts to get the paperwork sorted, tossed or filed this week. The last couple weeks I had worked on powerpoints for the music program and practicing, so didn't work on the spring cleaning as much. So.....this week it's back to the old grind. I really want to catch up so I can work on some new songs. I'm hoping to get some originals worked up and recorded eventually. Just got to keep at it!
It's amazing to me that 24 hours in a day is just not enough. We're all given the same amount of time each day. Yet some people accomplish so much in that time period. Me, seems like some days I accomplish getting up out of bed. Other days I start off with a bang, get a couple loads of laundry done, ironing, vacuuming and sort some paperwork, clean up the kitchen, cook meals and still have time for a movie on TV that evening. If I could only be consistent each day, what a difference it would make. But it seems that if I have a good day and get alot accomplished, then the next day or so, I spin my wheels. However. And I mean a BIG HOWEVER. I'm working on it!!!! I'm getting better at keeping up with things. Just above the "treading water" level. So I'm not complaining.
The other thing to consider is HOW you use your time. Yes, keeping a clean house is nice (if you're one of those people who can accomplish that feat!). But what else do you do? I do alot of things for my home, for my family, for myself. But what do we do for others? That's where I was doing better a month ago and not so good the last month. I think about that alot. Now I need to take action. It's not so much what you do with your time, but are you doing something for others. Talk is cheap. Doing is reality.
I know people, our pastor and his wife, my parents, my in-laws and other family members and friends, acquaintants that work tirelessly for others. Always helping others, no matter the inconvenience to their own plans or schedules. I feel that these people really put me to shame. They still manage to have a home, clean and inviting, time for their own families and yet are constantly doing stuff for others! It will never cease to amaze me and when I see how these folks are, I think of Jesus in the Bible, how this is what He encouraged others to do. What an example these folks in my family, in my church, in my community are and what a blessing these people are to other folks who are in need.
We're all given the same amount of hours each day. I'm trying to improve on how I use my time. How much do you accomplish each day?
June 23, 2007 - Sabbath
I have been doing some reading in Revelation (besides the normal Bible reading that I'm doing). I really have developed some questions about the 7 Seals, 7 Trumpets and 7 Bowls. At a later date I'll post some of what I'm thinking about it all. One thing that I have thought about is how our church taught us that the signs of the end of time have already happened, the sun and moon turning dark and the stars falling. But when I read Matthew 24, it seems to me that the stars falling of 1833, though it was a spectacular Leonids event, was not the stars falling that is spoken of in Matthew. Read it, tell me what you think....
June 22, 2007 - Friday
Just a routine housework day. Vacuuming, laundry, you know the routine.
June 21, 2007 - Thursday
I've been working on some major reorganizing of my stuff around the house. It's an extremely slow process. Tons of stuff to be sorted and filed. Still have tons to do. I tend to keep multiple copies of stuff so I'm trying to go through and delete some of the duplicate paperwork. I want to have a backup copy on the computer and then one hard copy of stuff. That way it's not so much paperwork.
June 20, 2007 - Wednesday
Hot and sunny, not much else happening. Working on some projects around the house.
June 19, 2007 - Tuesday
I've not been very good about getting my journal written in this month. Hang with me and I promise by July things will "pick-up" some, I hope.
June 18, 2007 - Monday
Happy Birthday Seth !!!!
I remember well the day (night) you were born! They thought I was way past due and put me in the hospital on the morning of the 17th. My aunt was so excited because that was her birthday. They induced labor for 17 hours and I never had but one minor contraction! The nurses got upset because the doctor kept increasing the pitocin, which is the meds to induce labor. They finally refused to increase it after a few times for fear of rupturing the uterus. So the doctor came in and did it several times. Finally he gave up at midnight and scheduled the C-section. But he had an emergency come in at the last minute, so you had to wait a couple hours longer.
It had been a hot summer day and I was thankful we were in a nice air-conditioned room. I was given alot of pain meds due to the surgery and apparently a nurse came to take you back to the nursery one night and I fought her for you. I don't remember doing anything but the next morning a nurse told me not to worry that the nurse from the night before had been transferred to another wing of the floor until after I would be discharged and that she wouldn't bother me anymore. I apparently put up a good fight. Someone indicated that I might've punched her too, but that wasn't confirmed. They had me so doped up on pain meds that I didn't have a clue to even what day of the week it was.
We spent seven days in the hospital mostly for my recovery from surgery. I had to have some additional minor surgery four weeks later in the doctor's office also but we all made it through. You were a beautiful baby and I was scared to death that I'd do something wrong.
We all survived and you were just beautiful, 10 lbs 8 oz. Dad was present when you were born. We spent 7 days in the hospital, mostly for my recovery. When Dad & I took you home, we laid you in the crib and then looked at each other and said, "Now what do we do????" Thankfully, we must've figured it out, because you survived it to celebrate this day once again!. Happy Birthday!!!!!!!
June 17, 2007 - Sunday
Still thinking about the kittens! We used to have quite a few cats and kittens when we lived up in Westminster. I can't have them inside the house due to allergies and asthma. But we always had "barn" cats, so they had a warm place to live and we kept them all fed and cared for. It was great and for our care of them, they kept our place mouse-free. They were also good pets and loveable. The kids had them all trained to do all kinds of stuff. Cool memories!
June 16, 2007 - Sabbath
Dad & I did a program over in Rock Hall today. I played several songs on the piano and sang, also sang several to pre-canned accompaniments. There were some others that performed also. Irene, who writes and plays and sings her own songs, which by the way are AWESOME! She should make a CD definitely! I wish she would write songs for me to sing! They are beautiful! Dee and Linda sang and my little "3rd cousin once removed?", Brandon, sang a song with me! It was a great day.
I left after pot luck and visited my Aunt Dorothy, Uncle Ben and cousin Bootsie. Bootsie has lots of little kittens that she's taking care of and looking for homes. I was really tempted to bring a couple back. Maybe later this fall. We have so many natural predators here in the woods. I would need to make sure that something small like that had a safe place to live and play first. So I'll work on it this summer and see what I can come up with. I love kittens and cats anyway!
We had a nice visit and then I hit the road for the 3 hour drive back to Virginia. Tired but a wonderful weekend!
June 15, 2007 - Friday
Drove over to Dad & Dot's today. Had a flat tire just as I arrived. Dad got it fixed for me so I was good to go. We practiced for the program tomorrow. We also went out to eat for supper which was really a treat and delicious too!
June 12, 2007 - Tuesday
Happy 41st to Dad & Dorothy !!!!
Remember your 40th last year???? I won't soon forget it! That was the weekend, one year ago that I broke my ankle and tore the achilles. What a year. But it was really good to see Earl, Gail, Ed, Linda, David, Emily, Laurie, Kevin, Penny, Stephanie, TJ and Jessica!!!!
June 9, 2007 - Sabbath
Happy Birthday Ed !!!!
Hey little brother! Hope you've had a good birthday! Weren't we all just kids YESTERDAY??????
June 8, 2007 - Friday
Happy Birthday LP !!!!
Best wishes kiddo, though you're not a kid anymore! I'm thinking about you!
June 7, 2007 - Thursday
Today was a little different. Had jury duty. And though the trial was plea bargained out, while waiting we learned alot about the system and proceedings. I found it all so very interesting! Would I want to be a lawyer? No. But working around the courthouse in the proceedings etc, would've been really interesting!
Otherwise, once I was home, it was back to the routines of housework, laundry and such. I'm not bored, even if you are!
June 6, 2007 - Wednesday
What can I say? Are you getting bored with my journal this summer???
Dad sent me the program that we're going to do in Rock Hall later this month. So I'm working on that. Otherwise it's housework, laundry and cleaning. Will I ever catch up?????
June 5, 2007 - Tuesday
Another busy day doing what I do....not much to report. Boys are well, we're all doing great!
June 4, 2007 - Monday
Housework, laundry, hey, you guys know the routine! I'm actually trying to gain some ground on my Spring Cleaning 2007!
June 3, 2007 - Sunday
Worked on ironing today that I didn't get done earlier this week. Watched some TV in the afternoon. Otherwise, routine Sunday.
June 2, 2007 - Sabbath
Quiet day. Did some reading and updated the Hurricane pages on the N4KUP website to include 2005 and 2006 storms. I'd fallen behind on all that stuff.
Jim killed a couple spiders for me this weekend. One was definitely a mutant spider. He had 12 legs! But it was a spider. Creepy. I thought maybe it was a spider eating another one, but there was only one body so ew-w-w-w-w. It's bad enough to have the eight-legged little creatures, now we've got some with twelve legs???? Again....ew-w-w-w-w-w.
Nothing else new to write about today. So maybe more later this week.
June 1, 2007 - Friday
Busy Friday, first day of the month. Did some laundry and miscellaneous housework as well as some grocery shopping. Otherwise a routine day. Jimmy has gone to visit Jessica for the weekend, a couple hours drive or so. Temps in the low 90's and I'm really appreciating the AC this evening!
Today is the first day of the 2007 Hurricane Season, and have you heard? We have our first Tropical Storm for the 2007 on the first day of the season, named Barry. What happened to A? I wasn't paying attention, did we have an earlier one, pre-season???? The Weather People are predicting an above average year in the Hurricanes. Let's hope they are wrong, like last year.....
