February 28, 2008 - Thursday

What can I say, the end of the month is fast approaching. Hey, it's about here! I'm still working around the house but did a little grocery shopping and stuff today. I used to have a certain day that I always went for shopping. But now that the boys are grown and living away, for just Jim and myself, well, it's just easier to pick up a couple things here and there when I need them instead of the heavy duty shopping I used to do. I used to buy everything in bulk, since we lived so far from the grocery stores. But also, now we have one about 10 miles away which is alot closer than 35 miles, so it's a little easier to grab a couple things here and there. Easier on me too.

Our Ms Bandit has been visiting us each night. But she didn't come buy quite as much last night, cause it was much colder and they don't like the cold weather. I got up at 7 am this morning. Yeah, I know that's early for me, but I had alot to accomplish today. Anyway, the temperature was 19.8° when I got up. That's a little cold. However, it was up to 31° when I went outside a couple hours later and that only required a jean jacket. What can I say? I love the cold weather. Well, not windy cold, just nippy cold and still.

February 27, 2008 - Wednesday

I'm big on contesting and couponing and all that kind of stuff. A while back I had started collecting the coke caps that you submit for "rewards" on their website. I had over 100 points and they disappeared. Turns out they take them away after a couple months. So I thought I would be smart about it this time and save them up and put them all in at once and then get my "freebie". Well, you can only enter 10 a day and I had a couple zip-lock bags full of them.

So I've consistently been entering them, ten at a time, each day. Now that I have quite a few points submitted, they don't recognize my password. What a joke. It's happened a couple times, so I'm sure that tomorrow it will be back. It's a nuts website, I don't know who designed it but it is the slowest and most awkward site. Every time I visit it, my internet explorer crashes. Every single time. That may not be entirely their fault as my system is a little older these days, but still, you'd think they would try to have a site that was "user-friendly" since MOST people don't buy new computers every six months!

Busy day, moving some furniture and stuff around still. My arms and legs are sore!

February 26, 2008 - Tuesday

Another busy day, what can I say. I'm trying to accomplish some stuff that has needed to be done for so long. It's just very tedious and time consuming. But I'm getting there, honest, I am!!!!

Jim got a couple good photos of our resident racoon tonight. He likes coming to the house to get peanuts and stuff that the birds and squirrels have left behind. Probably enjoys some of the scraps I toss out also! She (we think it's a female) is SO beautiful! She's really a big racoon too. That's one thing about living back in the woods, so many animals and critters, never a dull moment!

February 25, 2008 - Monday

Housework, laundry, typical weekday routine. I'm in the process of rearranging several pieces of furniture again. I feel like I'm really cleaning when I rearrange. I guess we'll call this my "Spring Cleaning 2008". I've given up on trying to keep track of all the years I've fallen behind, so I'm just gonna call it what it is, Spring Cleaning! Problem is I'll need help before I'm done, since I have a couple bookcases I want upstairs and another small desk to go downstairs. Jim just LOVES for me to do this!

And for those of you who don't know me, that was pure sarcasm.

February 24, 2008 - Sunday

It started cold, warmed up, then clouded up and got chilly. I went to town, only took a light jacket, didn't use it going around to the stores. But by the time we headed back home again, I was cold and glad to have it. We did a little more shopping and window shopping. It sure is fun!!!!

February 23, 2008 - Sabbath

Now I remember. It's so much to do, so little time, right??? Or something like that. Well, you get the drift anyway. I'm trying to sort and toss and scan and file and well, it's hard. I'll be the first to admit that I'm a pack rat of the worst sort. Well, maybe not quite as bad as the lady on TV, but probably a very close 2nd place.

I have good intentions. Saving receipts and stuff, well, I just know that the very day I throw anything away, I'll need it. I just know it. And the one time I did throw something away, I did need it and was sorry. So now I save everything. But I'm finding out that it doesn't do any good to save things for that "rainy" day because when that day comes, you won't be able to find it or get to it, if you're lucky enough to know where it is. So, bottom line? Time to toss, sort, scan, toss, file, toss, toss, toss....

Don't like doing this, but gotta do it or go crazy trying to find stuff. I can't even enjoy my hobbies so figure it's time to make some major changes. So I'm a-workin' on it, honestly and truly. But it is a very slow process. I don't want to accidentally throw any thing important away. I have a very bad habit of writing down things on small pieces of paper, important things, like birthdates, etc. So I have to sort through that kind of stuff to make sure I've got the info logged into genealogy files and stuff. You can see why this is such a tedious job. But I'm nothing if not persistant, consistant and determined to succeed. It WILL happen. It just takes a long time. A long, long, long, long-long..........long time.

February 22, 2008 - Friday

Had a thin coating of ice during the night with a few short hanging icicles hanging on everything. Fortunately not enough to lose power and such, but enough to make roads slippery and cancel school. Jim had worked up in MD yesterday and they all worked late last night so they wouldn't have to drive up in this mess this morning. So Jim took the day off and stayed home. Why risk wrecking the vehicle when you have the leave??? It reached a balmy 37° this afternoon and is currently hovering in the 33-34° range with some light drizzle which, if the temps drop a couple of degrees, will become FRizzle.....

I just don't know where this week has gone. Both the boys have been sick and been to see doctors. We're hoping that all will be well for them. Jim and I are doing good, we've had an extremely busy week. Those who know us, know some of the changes and work that we're doing around the house. It's all good and we're so very happy with the work! We are getting things accomplished that have needed to be done for a long, long, long-long, long..............long time.

At a later date I may post some photos but unless you see the before and afters, well, what good would it do? But I will probably post some anyway. It's just that some haven't seen or heard about our work yet, so until they do, well, just know that we are pleased with our it so far.

Do you remember when I painted Seth's room last summer? I still have some more painting to do also. I already had bought the paint, I just need to get busy with those projects also as part of the household projects that we are doing. Ah, how the hours fly by, how the days sail past me without me knowing why or where or how they go so quickly. What is it about getting older? I never thought my days were long but it seemed like they were longer than they are now. And the funny thing is that back then I needed 10-12 hours of sleep a day, so I really had LESS hours in a day. Now I need only 6 hours of sleep and yet the days are shorter than ever. What is with that????

February 21, 2008 - Thursday

Just a dusting of snow last night and cold this morning, 22°. Warming up later today. Tons to do, enjoying the view, what else can I do? OK, OK, so I was trying to rhyme, I'm no poet and now you know it... tee hee hee, I can't stop....

Guess I might still be a little tired? Ya think?

February 20, 2008 - Wednesday

Nice work accomplished today at the house. Tired, so very tired!!! Will post more later. I am so VERY pleased!!!

February 18, 2008 - Monday

Celebrate President's Day !!!!

To celebrate both Lincoln and Washington. They have their individual days, but the government combines them in the middle (you know, between the two dates) so that they only have to give the employees off one holiday.

We did a little "window" shopping only today after some work around the house. It's always fun to shop, even if you don't buy anything. Course, it's good to buy things too....

February 17, 2008 - Sunday

A little shopping and just an enjoyable day all around.

February 16, 2008 - Sabbath

Happy Anniversary to Jim & Kay !!!!

Yep, that's us!!! Thirty-three years. Wow. That's a long time. But it's been overall a good 33 years!!! But I know alot of people who've been married even longer. Jim's parents have been married, well, let me think.... WOW! This year will be their 71st!!! Now THAT is amazing!!! And my parents, WOW!! They'll will be crossing their 42nd anniversary this year too! AWESOME.

February 15, 2008 - Friday

Ugh, I think I'm fighting a slight cold or flu. Not really down sick, just not up to par.

February 14, 2008 - Thursday

Happy Valentine's Day !!!!

It was a busy day today, did a little grocery shopping and town errands so that I can relax for the next couple of days! Jim has Monday off, government holiday and so we want to do some stuff around the house!

I haven't been very good about keeping up my log this month. Maybe because I'm SO-O-O busy!!!

February 11, 2008 - Monday

It was cold last night, finally a cold night again! But it's going to warm up again.... I only wanted a couple weeks of winter!!! WHERE is it???? I got up this morning around 8 am and the sun was shining brightly. The temperature was 19.2° at that time. It's now 1 pm and the temp is hovering around 25°. So that's cold, especially since there is a slight breeze.

Seth called last night and we talked for quite awhile. He was catching us up on his work and school and all the news. They have a variety of pets and driving the other day, out in the middle of nowhere, they found a very small kitten, thin and starving, out in the middle of the road. They stopped to get him off the highway so he wouldn't get hit by a vehicle, and he just jumped right into their car. (He knew a good thing when he saw it!!!) So they brought him home and cleaned him up and fed him and now have a new member of the "family"!!! They're so cute when they're kittens! He'll have photos on his webpage soon...

February 10, 2008 - Sunday

We drove up to the new ABC near White Oak, Maryland, this morning. It's the Adventist Book Store for the Potomac Conference. It actually opened up in that location several years ago, but we had never gone there to check it out. It is a long drive after all. It's really a nice store. They have a huge collection of books, Bibles, music and vegetarian food. We bought a whole bunch of the canned foods, since it's hard for us to get them in our area. Probably enough to last a year!!!

We were back home fairly early and Jimmy came over for a visit and to work on some laundry, so we had a nice visit with him. He had to run to the store for Jessica's mom and when he came back couldn't get up our lane due to small trees and large limbs that had come down with all the wind. He worked on clearing those for us for about 45 minutes and then was able to visit for awhile longer! We sure appreciated his work on the lane and the visit!!! Even though he lives close by, we still don't get to see as much of him, since he is busy with school and work and Jim is busy with work. So we really enjoyed having him stop by!!!

February 9, 2008 - Sabbath

We watched a movie tonight, The Brave One, with Jodie Foster. She and her fiance' are out walking their dog, talking about their wedding plans and they get attacked and beaten. The fiance' dies and she survives but after many weeks in the hospital. She finally goes back to their apartment and has a tough time making herself get back into the routine of life. If you're faint of heart, I wouldn't advise watching it, since the violent attack is very realistic. However, the interesting part is she becomes a vigilante, somewhat in the pattern of the "Death Wish" series of movies that Charles Bronson did some years ago.

It bothers me, sometimes how much satisfaction I get seeing the bad guys get what's coming to them. And then I remembered that I don't have to be a vigilante in this life. I have a God who is a vengeful God, who will deal with those who have dealt wrongly with me and mine. What a great feeling it is to know I'm part of that family! I don't have to do anything because in the end, God will take care of it for me. What an AWESOME GOD!!!

February 8, 2008 - Friday

My mother-in-law is home from the hospital and she's so happy to be back home. We talked with her on the phone and you can just tell she's glad to be back home!

Busy day here, just housework, laundry and such. What can I say? It's a routine world, ah, but to dream dreams.... Yes, I dream of having my house cleaned up and organized and of spending time on my various hobbies. If only in my mind....

February 7, 2008 - Thursday

Just tired tonight, not much to add....

February 6, 2008 - Wednesday

Worked on housework and other things around the house. Don't know when I'll catch up but I suppose it will happen one of these days. Been watching all the tornado activity and destruction that has happened coming across the country. My heart aches for all the folks affected by these tragedies.

Busy week.

February 5, 2008 - Tuesday

Not much to log tonight, already talked to most of the family about most stuff. Will write more later.

My mother-in-law is in the hospital, keep her in your prayers.

February 4, 2008 - Monday

You may notice that the home page is a little different. At least the index has some omissions and some new categories. Some of the links are active but to a page that has not been designed yet. Be patient, more pages will be coming as I work on them. It does take some time!

New stove has arrived, is installed and has been used once. I was reading instructions on how to use it as I was trying to cook a meal, so that was difficult. But regardless, I'll figure it out and I LOVE it!!!! Just gotta figure out why it keeps beeping at me ever so often.......

Oh, I had apparently set some sort of timer, but now it's stopped.... It's so pretty!

February 3, 2008 - Sunday

Just working on stuff around the house, you know the routine, housework, laundry, piles of paperwork to sort and file, and a little research into some old Urie genealogy files. I know I have more data that I've never organized or put online that needs to be done. I got an email from a Urie "cousin" who is researching her family and I know she ties into one of the two lines of Urie's, I just can't figure out which one from the data I have already organized. So I'm going to do a little research that I've needed to do for years!!!! It's SO exciting, I always get all excited about it, when I hear from others researching the same lines!!!

Jim replaced my hood over my stove and it's alot nicer than the old one that we had. My stove will be installed this week. So that's pretty exciting for me! It was definitely time for an update!

February 2, 2008 - Sabbath

Happy Groundhog's Day !!!!

Did the Groundhog see his shadow at your house? He did here in Virginia, so, as the saying goes, six more weeks of winter. However, the local news in Richmond says he's wrong. Says there is a warming trend over the next 2 months with no sign of winter. Says winter's over..... Ha. We haven't even HAD winter yet, other than a couple dusting's of snow and about 4 scattered days of cold weather. Winter, my foot.

Was tired today so not much to report on in the journal. Took an afternoon nap and then Jimmy came for a visit which was really nice!!!!

Talked with Seth late and they were just entering Texas and had about 850 miles of Texas to cross. Jim told him they should've crossed Texas further north and it would be alot shorter....

February 1, 2008 - Friday

As usual, you can find the end of my previous month's journaling on the Archives Webpage under January 2008. Otherwise, read on. Went for a short visit to both parents this afternoon and enjoyed seeing them all so much.

It rained really hard all day today. I didn't have my rain gauge out so can't give an amount, but I suspect it was easily over an inch. We had alot of rain and water on the roads on our short trip, but the lane didn't run too much so, an inch or so would be my guess.
