Quiet day today, did a little reading and relaxing, keeping my feet up for a day. I've spent quite abit of time this week standing and I'm paying a price for it in pain. So I really needed a day to be off my feet.

So the kittens went over (one at a time) to get a taste of the scraps of turkey and they would jerk back from it like they had been repulsed. Then as they backed away, they shake each foot. Now if you've ever watched a cat, and you cat-lovers know just what I'm talking about, if they get their feet wet, they shake them one at a time like, ew-w-w-w-w-w-w. That's what Salt & Pepper were doing as they quickly back up away from the turkey remains.

So I thought about it, and thought some more and it dawned on me. When we saw the huge skunk there the other night, Jim opened the door and stepped out on the deck to scare him away. Well, Mr. Skunk must've left a "calling card" on and around the turkey. We thought he might've sprayed a little, but inside the house with the windows closed, we weren't 100% sure and we weren't going to reopen the door to find out. So he marked the turkey scraps so nothing else will eat it.

I found some really good earthquake and tsunami data! I downloaded it and will figure out how to share it with you. Anyone can access it at the USGS website! Cool statistics and I love statistics about things!

There was a earthquake of 6.0 on the Richter Scale at the FIJI REGION today. I guess it's useless to think that earthquakes in the ocean would be reported since some of the land earthquakes don't make the news. A 6.0 is a pretty good shake regardless.

Daily Worldwide Earthquakes (greater than 2.5 on the Richter Scale):29

There was a 6.0 earthquake today in SOUTHERN SUMATRA, INDONESIA. All the news reports are about the terrorist attacks in India.

Well, another busy day, like every day this past week and probably from now on through the holidays! Ran a couple loads of laundry, practiced my songs, burned a couple CD's of stuff and posted all the chilren's songs online.

There were other routine things that I accomplished but this journal will really get dull if I continue to list all the housework projects each day. So I won't bore you with the details of all the little cleaning projects I've been working on.

I suppose you could call this the "Fall 2008 Cleaning", since I finally gave up on trying to track the years and items I didn't get accomplished in the past. Now I'm trying to focus on today online and not worry about tomorrow or yesterday's mistakes. I don't always succeed, but I'm definitely making progress.

Oh, we saw the biggest skunk I have ever seen in our backyard. He was going after some of the Thanksgiving scraps that I toss outside. He was HUGE!!!!! The kittens just watched him cautiously but never moved. Probably a good thing....

Oh and Salt, one of the twins, came running across the yard and made a huge leap right up onto the deck with a meadowmonk. He showed it to us, showed it to his twin, Pepper, played with it for a bit (it was already dead) then knocked it off the deck. I thought it was funny that he brought it for us to see.... Wonder what goes on in those little kitten brains....

Happy Thanksgiving Day !!!!!!

Another busy day! I put the turkey in the oven then did a bunch of housework, then picked up alot of my stuff, paperwork that I had laying around in the kitchen! When the turkey was finished, I stuck the sweet potatoes in the oven as well as the dressing, started the succatash on the stovetop, put the macaroni in the microwave. When those had been in about 20 mins or so, I heated up the gravy, added rolls to the oven and made mashed potatoes. Then carved the turkey and got everything on the table. I thought it turned out pretty good too. Oh, and we had pumpkin pies for dessert! Now that's a big dinner! Jim said that he thought it was the best dinner that I had ever fixed! I hope it will turn out that good for Christmas!!!!

I'm not known for my cooking.....

Seriously though, remember what today is all about. We have so much to be thankful for, we are so blessed. All you have to do is watch the TV news for 10 minutes to realize that we, here in America, have freedoms and a way of life like no other. I'm thankful for a wonderful family: my parents, brothers and their wives', nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and all my extended family members, my in-laws, and all of Jim's family: brother, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and all of the extended family, church families, both from in the past and present and friends, near and far. And I'm so very thankful for a good husband and two wonderful sons and their families. Yes, I'm very blessed in so many ways, even more that I didn't list. So I have so much to be thankful for! Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!!!!!

We watched a couple of movies this afternoon and really enjoyed ourselves, though, we miss family, of course. But even so, we had a good Thanksgiving. And I am SO-O-O tired tonight I'm having trouble typing this, so I'll call it a night! I've got another busy day tomorrow too. Man, I've actually accomplished some things this week. Prayer really does work!!!!

Daily Worldwide Earthquakes (greater than 2.5 on the Richter Scale):27

Very busy day. I baked pumpkin pies and got my sweet potatoes cooked, fried and in the dish to bake tomorrow. Also got my stuffing ready to add some turkey liquid and to bake, same with the macaroni, all ready to nuke. That way all that's left to do tomorrow is the rolls, gravy, bake the sweet potatoes, macaroni and stuffing, make some white mashed potatoes, succatash and bake the turkey. It's interesting that many folks here in the south deep fry their turkeys. I haven't tried that yet, but I'm guessing that it tastes very good!

So I'm tired and gonna call it a night! Night.

Today was more of a clean-up day to make space to work for the next couple of days. I have cluttered my kitchen table and countertops with all kinds of stuff, so today I worked on paperwork, tossing old magazines, sorting our things I've cut out of them, like coupons and recipes and that sort of thing. I'm trying to make space to be able to bake my pies and deal with Thanksgiving cooking. Normally one of my favorite times of year. We're just going to have a quiet dinner at our house this year and kick back to enjoy a movie or two on TV. Well, other than me cooking and cleaning up afterwards.....

I'll have a bigger dinner with family visiting and all for the Christmas holidays. And don't forget, they are coming really soon! We're at the 30 day countdown, today! So I hope you are getting ready. Do you have your Christmas shopping done? Have you wrapped any presents? Are you working on your Christmas cards & letters? Have you gone through last years Christmas decorations to decide what you're going to use this year? Have you cleaned your house, top to bottom for company? Have you planned out your Christmas menu's? Do you have your turkey in the freezer? Have you written your New Year's Resolutions for 2009 yet? The answer is no. It should be yes, but I'm not Martha Stewart, so I've not accomplished any of these things yet. I will get them done, at least most of them. Some won't get done at all.

One of my sister-in-law's just does the most beautiful decorations! She has her house decorated by the time Thanksgiving is over and it is always just so beautiful! She should be Martha Stewart, because she just has an eye for how things should go! I'm always so jealous when I see how she has decorated her home! Nice job Penny!!!!

Temperatures: Hi - 51° Lo - 43° Rainfall Amounts: 0.2"(inches)
Daily Worldwide Earthquakes (greater than 2.5 on the Richter Scale):31

Busy day, worked on some laundry and ironing, just as I do every Monday. Then I recorded the 32 songs for another children's program. One needs to be redone, but otherwise the rest will stand as is. I'm also going to post them online like I did the first program. Same link as in yesterday's link.

There was a 7.3 earthquake in the SEA OF OKHOTSK, which is located on the Northwestern corner of the Pacific plate near Russian territory. In other words, almost due West of Alaska. Never heard anything about it on the news. Do they even cover earthquakes anymore????

It was a bright blue sky, not a cloud seen in the morning. By 2 pm it had clouded up and rain started soon after dark. We got 2/10th's of an inch, which is enough to lay the dust, but every little bit helps! Fortunately, the temperatures have warmed up, which we expected since the rain came up from the south. So no freezing problems here in are neck of the woods.

November 23, 2008 - Sunday

Temperatures: Hi - 44° Lo - 23° Rainfall Amounts: 0.0"(inches)
Daily Worldwide Earthquakes (greater than 2.5 on the Richter Scale):58

Quiet day, just did odds 'n ends around the house. Had some paperwork to go through, as usual, had to balance my checkbook, not a biggy since I don't have much money! And I've uploaded my "Me, Me & Me" trio song, Beautiful Star of Bethlehem on my Christmas Music page, which you can see/hear by clicking here: Christmas I. It's not a finished version, but it was fun to record the harmony tracks myself, opens up all kinds of possibilities!

Well, now I've done it. I've gotten one of my harebrained ideas which adds another huge project to my list of projects to do. But at least I've actually started this project. The songs I've recorded for the children's programs are now online for your enjoyment and use. I've also made a webpage for the words of the songs that are used in these songs, since we don't use the ones that are actually written in the music books. You can access the songs here: Children's SS Songs. And you can access the song words from that webpage or this link: Children's Songwords. Just another service that I'm providing to you, my adoring public... OK. So maybe you're not adoring. But you are my public. Well, not mine.

Did you notice the higher number of earthquakes today? Nothing major like the last few days, but a lot of little to medium size "shakes" around the world!

November 22, 2008 - Sabbath

Temperatures: Hi - 39° Lo - 22° Rainfall Amounts: 0.0"(inches)
Daily Worldwide Earthquakes (greater than 2.5 on the Richter Scale):28

Active seismic day today. There was a 6.3 NORTH OF ASCENSION ISLAND; also a 6.4 SOUTHERN SUMATRA, INDONESIA and another 6.4 SOUTHEAST OF THE LOYALTY ISLANDS. In addition to these 3 earthquakes there were an additional 25 earthquakes ranging from 2.5 to 5.9 on the Richter Scale, of which 5 were greater than 5.0. Nothing heard on the news stations this evening. Amazing.

Was working on some songs at the computer this afternoon, but fell asleep. Yes, my head actually goes forward and clumps the desk or keyboard. Don't ask me why.

It was COLD last night, reaching down to 22°. I normally love this weather, except we had some wind, so that makes it feel alot colder. I can take temperatures down into the 20's if there is NO wind. Otherwise, with wind, my temperature tolerance has to rise up to in the 40's. But I still love this time of year. You can see through the woods, see all the animals and birds better. I can breathe. Clausterphobic? Perhaps a little. Asthma, definitely.

Well, I remember exactly where I was on this day in 1963. Do you? I was at the Post Office picking up the mail because it was just down the block from the school I attended. We got out early on Friday's and the lady at the PO told me what had happened. I literally ran down the street to our house to tell my Mom and she was watching it on TV.

November 21, 2008 - Friday

Temperatures: Hi - 44° Lo - 28° Rainfall Amounts: 0.0"(inches)
Daily Worldwide Earthquakes (greater than 2.5 on the Richter Scale):23

Busy day today. Did a little housework, then worked on the children's songs that I needed to record. Well, at least for the first program. There are 51 songs all together, give or take. So I got the first 19 recorded. Then I recorded 6 songs for me of some that I've been singing. Just playing around it stuff. I took one song and recorded it with me singing. Then I re-recorded it with me as a harmony part. When that worked, I did it a third time, adding me in once again in the 2nd harmony part. I'll have to post it on my music website. It came out pretty good, there's some mistakes in it such as accidentally bumping the mike etc. But for a first try on multiple recordings, not too shabby. Now I just need to learn how to record in different tracks so that I can pull a track off if I want to.

There was a 6.0 earthquake today in the SOLOMON ISLANDS. Nothing heard on the news. Guess they don't want to distract from all the hub-bub about the President-Elect.

Just more of the same, housework, paperwork, working on some children's songs and etc. Yesterday I updated a few webpages. I added the portrait of Mom that her friend, Kitty Hammond had painted after Mom died. I also uploaded my new painting class photos and of course, the close-up of my newest painting from that class.

My painting is shown below in this journal, but if you want to see the class photos, you will need to go to my Art webpages and/or click here: Art Class link.

Well, it got nice and cold last night. The wind could stop blowing but otherwise I welcome the cold air. I breathe better, I can see into the woods better with the leaves gone. Nice time of year. Yes, my joints hurt more. Especially this year since I can't take my arthritis meds anymore. But I still like this weather, minus the wind, of course!

There was a 6.1 earthquake in PANAMA-COSTA RICA BORDER REGION today. Nothing heard on the news about it.

November 18, 2008 - Tuesday

Temperatures: Hi - 43° Lo - 30° Rainfall Amounts: 0.0"(inches) - Brief shower of SNOW FLURRIES!!
Daily Worldwide Earthquakes (greater than 2.5 on the Richter Scale):36

Happy Birthday Shelly !!!!!!

Busy day, working on housework and stuff. We even had a few snow flurries today!!!! WOW. Snow flurries in November, in VIRGINIA! Very interesting. We often have a cold week or so, the week before Thanksgiving, but then it usually warms up for the holiday itself.

I had to laugh today, silly cats. I had put out some old soy-eggnog, thinking that the stray cats would love it. Well, they didn't. Various cats that pass through all day long would come up to the little platform and sniff it, then walk away. So near the end of the day, I went out to pour it out of the dish onto the ground so that the raccoon wouldn't upset it on the deck during the night. Well, one of the strays that I call "Smokey" was down below and I didn't see her/him. I didn't pour it on Smokey, but about 3 feet from her. I never saw a cat jump so high. I know it was better than 3 feet! I laughed so hard! When she saw it was me and that I was outside, she quit running and returned so fast, thinking I had more food for her, which I did, but it was really funny.

Temperatures: Hi - 51° Lo - 31° Rainfall Amounts: 0.0"(inches)
Daily Worldwide Earthquakes (greater than 2.5 on the Richter Scale):50

Temperatures have come down quite a bit today. We actually had a low of 31° this morning. I love it. Though it makes my joints hurt alot more. I had trouble getting out of bed this morning, but it wasn't because I was sleepy. I just hurt too much to move! But then I realized that I had forgotten to take any of my meds last night.... So I made myself get up and get my morning meds. So now, it's mediocre pain instead of excrutiating. So on a level of 1 to 10, I dropped from a 8 to a 5. But considering I'm such a baby about any kind of pain, I never drop below a 3, even on a good day. And there have been times when pain from other sources has been more intense than a 10, like after surgeries etc. So my scale of 1 to 10 isn't necessarily a normal persons scale. What can I say? I'm special.

Here's my painting from yesterday's class! You can see more of my paintings on my "Artwork" webpages.

Hey, there was a very strong earthquake, a 7.3 on the Richter Scale in MINAHASA, SULAWESI, INDONESIA. Never heard anything about it on the news. Did you?

Good day, had another painting class today! I'll post my painting as well as the class photos later, probably tomorrow. So check back to see added photos. I'll also add them to my art web pages tomorrow too. Anyway, I'm really enjoying them so much! I feel like I'm learning things too.

Well, I was on my feet alot today so I'm really beat and my legs are killing me so I'll call it a night for now.

November 15, 2008 - Sabbath

Temperatures: Hi - 76° Lo - 57° Rainfall Amounts: 0.8"(inches)Thunderstorms, 2:30am
Daily Worldwide Earthquakes (greater than 2.5 on the Richter Scale):43

Happy Birthday Joey !!!!!!

Nice thunderstorms last night, or should I say early this morning? They hit around 2:30 am and woke me up. Lots of lightning. Today, though it started out kinda nasty in the morning, has cleared up and warmed up and is quite breezy. We are currently under a tornado watch until 7 pm tonight. It is very tropical feeling with the humidity climbing in preparations for a good storm. We have the winds, the sheer, the humidity and the warmer southwestern wind, so the elements are in place for possible severe storms or tornadic activity. I see a TVS just across the PA line above Carroll County MD and a MESO near Frederick County MD too on the local radar summary images. Could be an interesting evening....

Well, no tornadic activity here at our house. We had a mild line of rain go through around 4 pm but not even lightning or thunder was noticed. Looked like others may have gotten at least some thunderstorms but I don't know if any reached the severe stage or not. Nothing heard on the news so....

Checking the radar summary, looks like either the summary has some errors on it or the Eastern Shore of MD got clobbered! Look at this, 124 knots is roughly 140 mph winds. What???? That sounds bad.....

I'll be interested to know what the story is, I've emailed family to see if they got bad storms or tornadic winds?

November 14, 2008 - Friday

Temperatures: Hi - 58° Lo - 50° Rainfall Amounts: 0.0"(inches)
Daily Worldwide Earthquakes (greater than 2.5 on the Richter Scale):38

No more heavy rainfall but just misty drizzle all day long. Overcast but not cold, in the high 50's, so not a "coat" or "sweater" day anyway. I ran to town for a little quick shopping and I'm tired! I did a little vacuuming and stuff before I left also, so guess I'm just really tired. Doesn't take much these days!

While in town, I did get a few more of the old SS programs copied, but still have quite a few more to do. I'm doing them a few at a time, so I'll get there eventually. It's fun going through them and remembering when my own children were that age and all the little kids we had. We had around 20 members but sometimes we had a few more, most of the time there would be about 14 - 16 in attendance. Certain times of the year, summer vacations and snowy weather, we would have a few less, but always an active group.

Going through all my old childrens SS programs, I typed up the basic outline of the programs that I did. It's not the actual programs, but the outline or layout of the program. It's hard to explain, but it was sort of like a formula that I used and then worked my program themes around the layout. I didn't realize it so much then, but looking at my programs I did have a "formula" or layout that I followed somewhat. Bet'cha wouldna thought that about me, huh. Oops my Scottish is breakin' thru.

Well, I'm tired tonight. Gonna call it and get some sleep. I've got some children's songs to record, I promise it's my top priority this coming week!!! I found the old songbooks and that was the biggest issue. Now I can work on them. I promise!

Daily Worldwide Earthquakes (greater than 2.5 on the Richter Scale):30

It rained today. Man, I mean it RAINED today! Fairly steady, sometimes a little hard. Sometimes there were as many leaves coming down as there were raindrops. It was the kind of day that I would like to curl up on the sofa in a blanket and read a book. I didn't of course, but I would've liked to have!

I actually did get a little housework done. It's never really done, but I made a slight dent in some things that I had been wanting to do. Found my box of receipts that need to be sorted. Found some other stuff that had been buried on a desk or table that needed to be taken care of. So, though the "progress" may not be seen by the human eye, there WAS progress made none-the-less. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

Heard from both the boys today so that is always a good thing too. Otherwise not much new. Routine Thursday if there is such a thing...

What can I say? Laundry, ironing, letters to the Post Office, dishes, supper, well and lunch for me too, pickup and put away. Actually it's more like pickup something in one room to take to another room, but on the way I see something else that needs to be done first, so I set down the one item and pickup the next one...... I work hard all day but nothing seems to get done....

I think I posted this story awhile back....Hm-m-m-m. Let me see if I can find it again.

Well I did find it way back in my August 2005 journaling pages. Not much has changed. I've added it to my "Truths" Webpages at the N4KUP website and here it is once again:

I decide to wash my car. As I start towards the door, I notice that there is mail on the hall table. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car. I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the trash can under the table and notice that the trash can is full. So I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the trash first.

But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the trash anyway, I may as well pay the bills first. I set down the trash can, I take my checkbook off the table, and see that there is only one check left. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go to my desk where I find the can of Coke that I had been drinking.

I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. I see that the Coke is getting warm, and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the coke, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye, they need to be watered. I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning. I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly I spot the TV remote that someone left on the kitchen table. I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I will be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.

I splash some water on the flowers, but most of it spills on the floor. So I set the remote back down on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill. Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day: the car isn't washed, the bills aren't paid, the trash can is still overflowing, there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter, the flowers aren't watered, there is still only one check in my checkbook, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.

Then when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day long, and I'm really tired. I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my email!

So now I hope you will understand how my days go by. And why I'm so tired at night. Though nothing has been accomplished, I worked hard all day!

Honor and Thanks to ALL our Veterans!!!!!!
Today is Veteran's Day!!!!!!

I thought that I had "journaled" information in the past years about Veteran's Day, but I hadn't. So I thought I would put some general information about it in today's log.

U.S. President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed an Armistice Day for November 12, 1919. The United States Congress passed a concurrent resolution seven years later on June 4, 1926, requesting the President issue another proclamation to observe November 11 with appropriate ceremonies. An Act (52 Stat. 351; 5 U. S. Code, Sec. 87a) approved May 13, 1938, made the 11th of November in each year a legal holiday; "a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated and known as 'Armistice Day'."

In 1953, an Emporia, Kansas, shoe store owner named Al King had the idea to expand Armistice Day to celebrate all veterans, not just those who served in World War I. King had been actively involved with the American War Dads during World War II. He began a campaign to turn Armistice Day into "All" Veterans Day. The Emporia Chamber of Commerce took up the cause after determining that 90% of Emporia merchants as well as the Board of Education supported closing their doors on November 11, 1953, to honor veterans. With the help of then-U.S. Rep. Ed Rees, also from Emporia, a bill for the holiday was pushed through Congress. President Dwight Eisenhower signed it into law on May 26, 1954. Congress amended this act on November 8, 1954, replacing "Armistice" with Veterans, and it has been known as Veterans Day since.

This information is from the Wikipedia. Just thought you might like to know.

The sun was shining, the air was cool and crisp. The leaves are fading from yellows, oranges and reds into the winter brown and falling slowly from the trees. Did I say slowly? Well, actually they are falling quite fast from the trees. Like rain.

We spent a quiet day at home. Well, besides the noises of normal fall activities, mowing to chop up leaves, and then the leaf blower sending even more towards the forest floor. The sounds of the washer and dryer churning and turning away washing away the dirt and drying the wet. OK. OK. Enough "poetry". We did some housework, inside and out today. Satisfied?

I was just trying to make it sound a bit more exciting than it was! But we had a good day. I love days in the fall of just being at home and getting some things accomplished. It feels good. In the summer, well, it's just to hot and humid to enjoy housework. But in the fall and winter, when the air is so much more cool and dry, it's almost a pleasure to accomplish some cleaning! Well, I did say ALMOST. I can't say that I love housework, but I love when it's a bit cleaner than before! So, "twas a lovely day to do the laundry and cleanin', if I must say so m'self"!!!!

Now, think about this. You owe your good life to the Veteran's of this country. All the freedoms of speech, the right to protest if you don't like what is happening. The right to work hard and make a living, to travel when and if you want. All of these freedoms and privileges we have in this great country of ours. You owe it all to the men and women who put it all on the line for you and for me. We are so lucky in this country, we don't even realize our own good fortune. So next time you are complaining about something that you don't like, or protesting against some policy that is proposed or just writing a daily journal online, remember who has fought so that we can have these and many other freedoms that we so often take for granted.

Cool and crisp this morning but bright and sunny and warmer as the day went on. Jim had a couple errands in town this morning so we took care of those and then came home for lunch. Worked on some little projects around the house for the rest of the afternoon and otherwise quiet day.

There was a 6.3 on the Richter Scale today in NORTHERN QINGHAI, CHINA. Another pretty rough earthquake. I don't know how populated the area is, and also didn't hear anything about it on the news.

Tired today so will call it a night. I have several things I need to accomplish around the house tomorrow!

Really a nice day outside today. Jim worked on the leaves in the yard and afterwards, they were falling again like rain. Just like me, I sweep the deck and steps off every morning and by noon you can't tell that I did anything. I LOVE this time of year!!!! Truly!!!

I felt like I got a few things accomplished today too. A couple loads of laundry, some cleaning in the kitchen and finished addressing the last of my snail contest letters. I have let the contest newsletter subscription expire due to the outrageous hike in the yearly cost, so will only do a few online contests for now. Also less time consuming. I've been contesting for years and have won a few things from time to time, but nothing recently, like in the last couple of years. So the cost doesn't justify the results anymore. And honestly, the newsletter went from a 10-12 page newsletter which stopped and went to an online version. Their website was not being updated so I never re-ordered that one. Then I started this new newsletter, which was only 6 pages each week of new contests. In the last few months, they've added things like writing essays or things you have to do or purchase to enter as well as using a page for people to write in about their winnings. If I wanted to read about winning, there are other publications available. This was supposed to bring contests only. And they aren't. So I didn't renew this year. (Besides the increased cost.)

The other thing they did is offer the online version for about $10 or so less a year. However, in trying to log into their website, I was unable to do so. I emailed them on several occasions, as they recommend you do if there is a problem. But they never responded. So I guess my subscription wasn't very important to them after all. Bye, bye newsletter.

There are many, many online contests you can enter and they don't cost you postage. Besides which, I actually had to stop doing the onlines before because there were so many and the more I did them, the more I found out about, and I was spending way too much time doing contests instead of other things I needed to do. So I have to be careful about that one, when I start the onliners again!

Still alot of earthquake activity in the Puerto Rico area. I mean LOTS. Nothing bigger than 4.2 on the Richter Scale so far, but still a lot of little shakes over 2.5. Wonder what is going on there???

Happy Birthday Jimmy!!!!!!

We had a mild thunderstorm around 8:30 am this morning with a bit of rain. By mid morning the sun had resurfaced and the temps soared to a high of 65°. Thing is the humidity was above the mid-range so it felt a little less comfortable than it should. But by evening there was a cooler nip in the air which though humid was very refreshing.

There was a 6.0 earthquake in TONGA today. That is also out in the Southwestern part of the Pacific Ocean in the Australian area.

There was a 6.4 near VANUATU today as well as a 6.1 in the BANDA SEA. These are both concerning the Pacific-Austalian plates in the SouthWest Pacific Ocean around New Zealand and Australia. There were also multiple earthquakes around the VANUATU area in ranges of 4.9 to 5.8 on the Richter Scale. In other words, pretty good shakes if you were standing there.

Too stinking hot & humid for me today. Maybe just because I'm doing laundry and vacuuming and other more "active" housework type activities. Temps in the 70's would be ok if it weren't for the stupid humidity. Fall should be cool & crisp. Bring on the winter, please!

Busy day, just doing some things around the house.

Jimmy stopped by for a short visit this morning and that's always a nice treat!

Jim had an eye appointment and we grabbed a bite to eat in town this evening. It was very enjoyable! We had a prescription for me to pickup also, so that done, we returned home tired and called it a night!

There was a 6.3 earthquake near VANUATU today.

Temperatures: Hi - 59° Lo - 50° Rainfall Amounts: 0.0"(inches)
Daily Worldwide Earthquakes (greater than 2.5 on the Richter Scale):90

Again, a fairly high number of mild earthquakes today. At least 60 of the 90 earthquakes were again in the Puerto Rico area. Wonder what is going on there????

Typical Monday, a little housework, a little laundry. I'm having trouble getting things accomplished right now, glued to the TV News with all the Election Coverage. After tomorrow, it will all be over HOPEFULLY. Then I can get back into my normal routines easier. Course, there is always an excuse to get out of housework!

It's been another overcast day and according to the weather and the radar, looks like some rain headed this way. A low pressure system, trying to work it's way into a small nor'easter is spinning off the coast of North Carolina with a "bead" on the Mid-Atlantic area for some good rainfall. Wonder if it will have an effect on the elections tomorrow????

It started out as a sunny day today but by mid-day had become quite overcast. But no rain so far. Jim was busy with his yearly radio contest so I did some things around the house. Once in awhile, when I go grocery shopping, I visit one of the big "wholesale" stores to buy in bulk. So I bought a huge package of hamburger on Friday. So what I do, since we don't eat a whole lot of hamburger normally, I freeze it. Usually I just freeze it in small portions in zip-loc bags to make sloppy joes or chile, or spaghetti or tacos, fajitas, well, you get the idea. But this time I actually made up some hamburger patties and froze them on wax paper and then into the zip-locs. I also mixed up a couple of meatloafs and froze them right in the baking dishes. Makes it so easy to pull out, thaw during the day and pop in the oven for a nice winter time supper!

Smokey & Sandy (young stray cats - I name them to keep them straight in my mind) both showed up today! Haven't seen them for about 3-4 weeks. I don't know where these stray cats roam to, but they periodically show up to see if I have any hand-outs for them. And I can't resist! Cali has been coming around every evening also. This evening we had deer right up by the deck. I was sitting watching the news and saw something move out of the corner of my eye and there they were! They are often in our front yard or further back in the small backyard, also down the lane. But they don't often come close to the house while we're up and about. They do at night however, because we've seen their hoof prints in the snow all up right against the house.

There was a 6.1 earthquake in ANDREANOF ISLANDS, ALEUTIAN IS., ALASKA, today. There was also a 5.5 in the Atlantic Ocean about 68 miles NNW of San Juan, Puerto Rico today. And though the 5.5 is not a "red" earthquake (greater than 6.0 on the Richter Scale), I still thought it was noteworthy since it is closer to the East Coast than most. And 5.5 is a pretty good shake regardless. As a matter of fact, there were at least 40 other minor earthquakes above 2.5 on the Richter Scale in the same general area. Hm-m-m-m, something brewing there????

Did you remember to set your clocks back one hour last night????

End of DST (Daylight Savings Time)!!!!

17 Years Ago Today - Denie Died

I'll always remember Denie, my sister-in-law, who passed away on this date. Most of the family was with her in those last moments at her home. A very sad day and a big loss to all of us.

Otherwise a quiet day, watched some 3ABN and also a couple of gospel music dvd's. I've been surfing on the internet for a couple hours this evening. Usually I don't do that very much, I stick to the stuff I'm working on. But today I got watching some YouTube's and found some of airplanes landing in Albuquerque and landing in Houston and BWI. Brought back memories of our trip last year to see Seth, JoAnna & Joey! So cool!!!!

Also watched a 9 part YouTube of the worst air disaster of the 20th century where two 747's collided on takeoff in the Canary Islands back in 1977. It is the re-enactment documentary of the whole scenario and is very effective in seeing what actually happened. A whole series of events, that if any one of them hadn't happened, the disaster wouldn't have occurred. Loss of life in that accident was 583 souls.

Well, with the warmth today, there were wasps all over the place. Guess they were out for their last spider hunt or hunting for a place to spend the winter maybe. Thanks, but no thanks, not in my house! It was because it was a very beautiful day today, cool, crisp in the morning and warm during the middle of the day. It actually could be about 30 degrees colder to suit me, but hey, at least it's not in the 90's.

There was a 6.0 earthquake in the BISMARCK SEA today. Again that's out in the Pacific Ocean near Australia. Have you noticed how the number of earthquakes has increased the last few days? Go back and check out the last few days of October!

Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour tonight before you go to bed. Now how do you remember whether to set them back or move them forward? It's easy..... SPRING - FORWARD and FALL - BACK! You know, SPRING FORWARD into summertime vacations and activities and FALL BACK into the school and winter time routines! Easy as that!

Well, it's the first of November and you'all know the routine. If you didn't see my October 31st journal and read all my accomplishments (at least the ones I'm willing to publicize), then you will need to check out my archives pages and click on October of 2008. Otherwise, keep it right here and let's see what the month will bring.
