It was sunny and hot, with a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms later in the day. Because of our location, I only grocery shop a couple times a month. I had just gotten all the groceries unloaded and put away when the sky grew dark and the storm hit. It blew pretty hard and about 10 minutes into the storm there was a loud whirling sound for just a few seconds. Then it began to hail, but turns out it wasn't hail, but small stones coming down from the sky. They were on our porches, vehicles and heat pump!
Though the wind blew hard briefly, it didn't roar like it did during Hurricane Isabel. (see my hurricane page for more details on the Category 1 hurricane). Yet we lost almost as many trees as we did during the hurricane! Fortunately, however, we were only without power for 48 hours from this storm. After Hurricane Isabel, we didn't have power for 11 days!!
